Description This is a acrylic painting of a Western Scrub-Jay standing on a branch. This is a bird that I see very often in my backyard, because I live on the west coast of the US.

Probably one of my best paintings ever, because I'm not very good at doing it yet.

I love the texture on the leaves here. The deep blue of the bird is pretty, too! I get Steller's jays, but I've never seen a scrub jay.

Interesting. It's true, I hear that Steller's jays mostly live in mountainous areas and high elevations, but there are several flocks in the neighborhoods around mine for some reason.

They usually live in areas with a high density of evergreen trees, so maybe there are a lot of coniferous trees around.

I have also heard that they sometime live in a lower elevation in the forests along the pacific coast.

That's probably it, then. I'm not too far from water (though I wouldn't call it the coast). There are definitely a lot of coniferous trees there and I did notice that the Steller's jays seem to prefer them over the deciduous ones.
