Description Paleo Profile: Diplodocus carnegii. One of the longest known dinosaurs in the fossil record, Diplodocus is to believed to be as long, if not longer than a blue whale. This massive giant sported a neck approximately 21 feet long and a tail twice that length. New research indicates that the tail could have been used to communicate amongst con-specifics, making whip like cracking sounds when the dinosaur swung it side to side. This behemoth ate constantly, grazing on flora of the Jurassic to fuel its gigantic body. Gastroliths, stones within the dinosaurs stomach, aided in digestion of eaten paleo plants therefore speeding up the energy intake process. Believed to have traveled in herds, Diplodocus would have been a spectacular site to see wandering across the open lands of the ancient world. Enjoy!

Artist note: Sorry folks about the animal not fitting on the page. This illustration took three sheets of copy paper to create. I didn't want to lose the detail on a smaller illustration.

Wonderful work. These guys are so attractive to recreate artistically. But they are such a pain to draw or paint them cause they never fit completely on page

I should warn you that Diplodocus doesn't have a row of spikes coming out of the midline of the it's back. Though it's skin still would have a scaly texture rather than elephant-like glandular skin. I should also warn that sauropod front feet lacked claws except for the big claw on the first digit.

As for other critiques your Deinocheirus, Tyrannosaurus, Therizinosaurus, and Oviraptor need feathers and supinated wrists. Your pterosaurs also need fur-like pycnofibres across much of their bodies. Also ceratopsians at the very least could use quill feathers on their tails. I'd also suggest lips on all dinosaurs that don't have beaks. Most fully terrestrial vertebrates have lips to conserve body moisture and lubricate the teeth. However, spinosaurs are a bit of an enigma given their semi-aquatic crocodile-like nature.

Thank you for the critiques and comments. I will take all into consideration for future illustrations. As a reminder, these are simply artist interpretations. I like to take a "old-school" retro style to the dinosaurs and ancient reptiles that I draw. Thank you again for your critiques and comments. I hope you may continue to enjoy my artwork even though they may not be accurate.

Lovely skin texturing! I also like the how deep the belly is compared to the animal. My only critique is that the shoulder blade shouldn't be showing, and the back of the jaw needs muscling, but otherwise it looks very nice!

Thank you for the critique. They're always good to receive. I'm glad you enjoy the piece. I will definitely keep the muscling and shoulder blade in mind for the next sauropod.
