Description By the ancient gods of 3d modeling!

How long was I making this model? Is it 2 months already? This must be the longest I was doing anything, but, oh, it was worth it!
Of course it isn't perfect, but I have learnt so much.

EDIT: I decided to soften the lighting to be more flattering and rerendered whole model.

Software used:

Modeling, posing - Zbrush
Retopo, UV - Maya
Baking, texturing - Substance painter
Rendering - Marmoset

Thank you! The main difficulty in presenting 3d model is that you have to make it look good from every side.

I can tell you - learning 3d modeling is super easy. You just have to pick software, learn it's principles and just sculpt. Mastering this skill is what is hard

I personally like Zbrush the most, but I don't think it has free trial anymore. Sculptris - VERY basic version of Zbrush is free. You won't make another Davy Jones or Iron Man here, but it's easy and fun for experimenting and getting basic hold on digital clay. Mudbox is poor man's Zbrush. Personally I never used it, but it seems ok, yet not as advanced as Zbrush. It has free trial and if you are student you can get it for free for 3 years. I know that Blender has some modeling function, but I know next to nothing about it. The main advantage of learning it is that Blender is all in one software - you can do everything here - from low poly to render. And it's completely free, even if you would use it for commercial purposes.

Watch some tutorials on youtube and give it a try. I will wait for the results!

I actually have already downloaded blender and started a tutorial a few days ago. But I kind of got discouraged when I failed to make a donut... but I think I need a bit more patience to get somewhere with this new program. learning all that new stuff is really hard in the beginning D:

but hey your comment encourages me to try again! yay motivation
thank you<3

Donut, contrary to common sense is quite advanced for first try. It has complicated geometric shape and nobody really does it from scratch, only uses default shape provided by software.
Try more organic shapes. Some dragon or alien heads, go fully creative mode. Also I don't know what donut you have done, but don't start with low poly. It sounds easy, but it really isn't. Always subdivide your starting sphere and work high poly, it's more convenient for beginners, looks better and helps you learn principles of digital sculpting.

I also made mistake. Zbrush has free trial. Ditch Blender for now and download it. Blender is a swiss knife of 3d software, but you won't peel your potatoes with it, if you don't have any previous experience. Zbrush on the other side is good, old, sharpened kitchen knife. You will master peeling potatoes in no time.

Love the colors and textures here, and that expression!
Great work, it's so cool to see the progress you've made!

Thank you!

I'm making "art" for nearly 10 years some progress was bound to happen

This lighting is nicer, not that it was bad to begin with.

This looks amazing!  The pose has good movement, legs and scarf both getting into it.  Jisandra's face is spot on and her shirt even has a hem!  (I'll fawn over more of the details on your next picture, don't worry.)

So I did take your advice to try digital sculpting.  So far all I've made is a spiky-looking tiki head, but even that was quite fun.  So I get what you mean about it.  Though I doubt I'll beat your level of skill.

It's like my 6th model ever, so I can say that modeling is a skill quick to learn, but hard to master. Will you upload it?

It was my first time working with real rendering software (Marmoset trail. Earlier I rendered every lightsource as a separate image in Zbrush and then combined them all in PS. The main render of the creature for example looked like that i.imgur.com/Hkh4WaQ.jpg . Well here is link to my WIP gallery - imgur.com/a/P4LGy . Maybe it will help you learn. )  and I didn't really know what to do. The previous light was also to harsh and showed to many unwanted details.

Detailing is my favourite step of every artist process so... (I painted the hem to hide the texture seams )

I'll probably wait until I have something worthy of posting.     But I can still show you:  i.imgur.com/AcpS0HE.jpg It's based off something I made with actual clay back in sculpute class, though the real one is less spiky and the eyes fit right.

It's interesting how much of a difference lighting makes in all types of art.  In some 2D art I've been working  on I've been trying to work on my lighting, and now it's the same thing here!  And seeing these WiPs is rather helpful, thanks!

And it's always been your strong suit, too!  I know I'll have to zoom in every time you pot something.  (Ahhh, sneaky!)

I don't have any idea what software you are using, but I see you have problem with geometry here. Just find out some kind of tool that allows you to add more polygons to your model and the those jagged edges will disappear. Otherwise it's ok for a first try. Experiment and learn your software, watch tutorials and in no time you will be able to sculpt everything you want.

Yeah good light can make complete disaster of an artwork look amazing, while bad light can spoil even the flawless one.

Happy to help!
