Precision. Speed. Drive. The power that pushes us all. The warriors. The naturalists. The demon hunters. The arcade champions. The gunslingers and the creatures. This power can only be found in a world unlike our own. A world of mystery, magic, science, and the uncanny, a world that takes from and gives to all. The world of video games. Seek your path. Chose your weapon. And seize your destiny, for battle and adventure await on the SEGA Genesis!

...what Nintendon't!
Ah, good old Mega Drive. Brings back a lot of memories. I don't care about all that crap that marioboys say about SMG, all I know is that this black beauty is one of the best consoles ever made and its library is glorious to say the least.

Yep, I grew up on Nintendo and Sega consoles. It was worth owning both because (unlike today) the libraries for them were so very different.
Nintendo had lots of longer story driven stuff like adventure games and RPGs, while Sega specialized in more action/arcade and artsy experimental games.
While I still love today's AAA games I personally gravitate more towards indie titles because they ooze that "sega spirit" of experimental weirdness that
made the Genesis so damned fun. ^_^

Even though I grew up with Nintendo and Playstation, I did play a few Genesis games. My favorite ones were Dynamite Headdy, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Bio-Hazard Battle, Earthworm Jim, Bonanza Bros, Cyborg Justice, Alter Beast, Rocket Knight Adventures, Comix Zone, Ristar, and Gunstar Heroes.

The list wins simply because SoR2, Gunstar Heroes, and Rocket Knight Adventures is on it. I especially love Gunstar Heroes.

Those are all great games. Sega went with a crazy fast processor (the same one that was in the $600 Neo-Geo) instead of
a nice graphics card and all of those games you and I listed are beneficiaries of that thought process.
Huge characters and lots of them are both a Genesis staple and what made it King of the action genre.

Definitely.
It'd be nice if game developers would go back to making quality games, relying more on the gameplay and storylines (where applicable) than on graphics.

That's very true. I think those big budgets got 'em stuck in "hollywood" mode, scared of making risks.
I think the thing about old school Sega was that they gave their 1st and 2nd party developers unheard of
creative freedom and the result was a huge catalog of VERY unique games.
You may see some of that spirit in today's indie devs, but the "big three" have long since abandoned
that thought process....even Nintendo has lost that pioneering spirit. @_@

Much to my displeasure, I've seen that in Nintendo, too. In all honesty, we can blame many of the more recent gamers for that. Given today's technology, I would LOVE to see a traditional RPG that would take over 120 hours of playtime to finish. With the capacity for games on ONE disc (and knowing how much of that are the graphics), that could easily be done using graphics like what you'd see on the PS1, or even SNES.
Some gamers suffer from the "instant gratification" disease, and it applies to their games, too. They want to be able to finish them 100% in one or two sittings, not spend hours working to achieve that goal. It drives me nuts, and really, it's no wonder I always fall back on those older games. Even Earthbound is superior in all non-graphical aspects to most of today's games...and I mention that one since it is a relatively unknown and under-appreciated title.
Indies are doing well today because of their creativity and willingness to take a risk. I want to see Nintendo, Sony, AND Microsoft start doing the same. It would save them, for sure, and I can guarantee many of us would appreciate them all the more for it.

Oh good. Yeah I remember that game when we were kids. We actually thought he was the strongest outta the three cause we could always get to the end with that mofo and no one else.

I'm pretty sure it is still Gilius in the artwork. The Top-10 doesn't seem to be directly 1-to-1 to the top-10 list, as Pulseman and anyone from Streets of Rage aren't in there either.

Eerr, what I meant to say was that the top-10 list doesn't seem to be 1-to-1 to the artwork, of course.
