"Who's the better Earth Bender? You Decide."Request for:
My second time drawing Toph. Starting to get the hang of her, but still a ways to go. I know there are a few inaccuracies. The hardest part was her hair, though I love the messiness of it.
Terra, I think, I've improved at. Though its hard to say for certain since I draw her sparingly. I like how the effects came out though. But now that I look at it, I probably should have given her hair maybe a little motion, kind of kicking up and flowing from her powers, andmaybe just a bit with Toph's hair too.
The background was a bit of an afterthought. I wasn't really given any specifics. I just sorta dove right in and started throwing dirt, dust, and debris where I felt like.
Don't know if this is what you envisioned BB, but I hope it's to your liking. It was fun to make, and I really got some more great practice for both characters out of it.

Here's my take on how the battle will go:
Earthbending abilities: Toph has EarthBending. She needs movement to control earth. She can't lift as much as Terra quickly, but she can make large pillars and shoot rocks faster. Also, since bending's closely tied to the body, trying to wield extremely large rocks will tire Toph faster. Terra has telepathy. She can lift her rocks with her mind, which is different from earthbending. Also, since Toph launches rocks, Terra can redirect them or return them. While Terra can pick up a huge slab of earth more quickly, her telepathy means she has to direct the rock every inch of the way. Therefore, Terra's rocks get slower the heavier they are, a weakness Toph doesn't have.
Vision: Terra has about 180* vision that can be blocked by objects or dustclouds. Toph has 360* EarthSight. As long as it's connected to the ground she's on, and within range, Toph can see it. However, should Terra make an Earth Platform to fly on, Toph will be unable to see her position, and can only see the rocks Terra picks up from the ground as they're being lifted. Also, if Terra's rocks don't fly in a straight path to Toph, Toph won't be able to anticipate the trick.
Mentality: Toph is tough and good at insults. Terra is stubborn and somewhat easily angered. If Terra can remain calm and quiet, Toph will be at the disadvantage. Anything else swings the favor to Toph.
Other abilities: Toph can metalbend. However, during her teenage years, she needed direct contact with the metal in order to bend it, making it more like metalmoving than true metalbending. If Terra is wearing a metal armor from Slade, and it's not a pure metal, then Toph can crush Terra using it. Terra, when she loses control, gains control over lava. If Toph angers Terra, Terra gains some power over Toph via lava terrain.
Results: Too close to call. If Terra is wearing a bendable metal, that's a quick and cheap win for Toph. If Terra takes to the air and stays there, she's likely to win. If this happens and Toph can anger Terra, then she regains the favor. If Terra gets too angry, however, Toph could be overwhelmed by the volume of rocks and lava.

Actually despite popular belief Terra has superior control over earth as not only was she able to wrestle with Raven over a bus sized slab of earth but she also can cause small earth quakes, sand storms and stopped a volcanic eruption, her defense on the other hand is beyond subpar to Toph's as Toph can literally use her earth bending to punch and kick solid rock in half and shoot it off like cannon balls, but as always Terra has her flight advantage, in the air she could easily just start randomly making the ground explode me use the disturbance to fly in and deck Toph like a boss, Terra has less control but intense power if she does go wild she won't just destroy Toph she'll wipe out everything in a good mile radius

Toph is stronger, but Terra could just stand on a floating rock and move around so Toph can't see her xD

Terra wouldn't stand a chance. She's too emotionally unstable, never really had much control over her powers. (She can't hide on her floating rocks forever.)
Toph can freaking bend metal, she can make armor out of stones and when pelting Terra with rocks, they're pretty strong. Terra can't afford failing to dodge her blows.
Because Terra seems to suck at controlling her emotions Toph would easily smash talk Terra into flailing around wildly and probably causing her to loose control of her rocks. And Toph isn't the kind of girl to hesitate to be bad-ass. Terra hits the ground- dead Terra.

Both are interesting character... but as far as Raw Power goes and their mastery of those powers...
Toph is the best of the 2... She can even bend metal molecules ! ...and she can sense people simply from the slightest mouvement... Only disadvantage is the aerial combat, due to her blindness...

Well, I'd have to say that Toph would beat Terra. Terra is more powerful, but Toph has more skill, more strategy, and definitely more control. Come on, we know that Terra could never have taught Aang earthbending the way that Toph did! But Terra would put up one hell of a fight. I think Toph would be impressed.

The Song 'We Will Rock You' comes to mind. Hmm, my money's on Terra, because if she doesn't have to make much movement as an earthbender, and if she was flying on a rock, would probtably have the advantage. Though who's to say Toph can't do the same? Jus because she's never done it on the series, doesn't mean she wants to do it or is aware she can. So, basically, Terra has more odds of winnning, but I like Toph much more. XD

This might be an even match up as pointed out Terra can move a rock above the ground and Toph can't sense anything that is in the air, but at the same time she can move quite efficiently through the earth and if she gains access to metal she might gain the edge against Terra because I don't think Terra has command over it.

Toph would soooooooo win! Hands down! Toph is a better than Terra; Toph can bend metal and Terra can't. But, if Terra were to get on her flying rock, Things might get tricky for Toph.

Yeah but metal bending only effective when Toph is actually touching it, plus Terra's powers are on a geothermic scale meaning she can call lava up to the surface.

Toph would win if she took Terra out so quick that she couldn't even get on a flying rock, but if Terra did than I'm sorry to say that Terra would win not because she's better because she better than Toph, she isn't, but the reason
Terra would win is because Toph wouldn't be able to 'see' Terra so Terra could just hit her a few times and it'dbe over. Anyway I really like the drawing the only thing that is weird to me is how tall Toph and Terra are to each other and how Toph's head is shaped, but besides that this is a great ppicture and I love it.

Hehe. But then it only takes a few seconds for Toph to either close it again or Bend a shelf of rock to stick out from the side to stand on

And thats all the time Terra needs to take flight and start either sniping,make rock golems, tap into another lava flow or just close the gap and engage Toph in fisticuffs.

Two words: Metal Bending. It's kind of hard to snipe or for golems to attack when they're being crushed by cars/buildings. And since Toph can anticipate her opponent's moves, fisticuffs probably won't be a problem.

Unless Terra tears a chunk of ground off and flies. It may be Earth, but if Toph doesn't touch it, she can't see through it. Terra will be rendered completely invisible and Toph will be helpless. I'll agree that Toph is more bad ass, but she's definately NOT stronger then Terra.

Yeah in the cartoon Deathstroke(Slade) trained Terra in hand to hand combat to the point where she was keeping up with Robin in a fist fight, so if Terra ever got close enough Toph is getting a hiking boot slammed in her face.

Toph has many things going for her and hand to hand combat isn't one of them.

Hm... perhaps Terra could beat Toph in a full power on power fight, but I just don't think she's good enough to defeat Toph at hand to hand combat - Toph's ability to sense vibrations through the earth would almost be like having precognition of her enemy's movements and attack strategies.

Sorry but metal bending is only effective when Toph is actually touching the object, so unless Toph learned how to effect metal without touching it or pull disposits out of ground I don't really see how metalbending is going help her in this fight. Now remind me again when was the last time Toph (or any bender for that matter) staved off anybody in hand 2 hand combat? Oh yeah that's right never, while i've seen Terra go toe 2 toe with Robin plus Terra out-reaches Toph so if anything Toph going to get her chin checked if Terra ever got within punching range.
