August
August assumed that Little Bird left after he turned around and began walking. She said nothing but a soft 'all right' and he did not hear her hoof falls as she made her way across the street. He glanced over his shoulder after a minute, to make sure she really was gone, and didn't see the 'ranger' immediately behind him. He couldn't decide if he was relieved or lonely.

((INSERT A COUPLE MINUTES OF WALKING/TIME SKIP?))

The Big Room, which is what August had fondly named the train station that his mother had left him in, wasn't too far from here. He knew the way like the back of his hoof. He was heading that way, not realizing he was being followed.

The seal brown foal passed rubble and debris, but suddenly August didn't feel like searching for old objects anymore. He had at least one prize: the feather he picked up earlier. The colt began to hum quietly to himself again as he curved his neck to look at the feather, and he lightly smiled. Wondering what kind of bird it must have belonged to, he hardly noticed the sudden change in wind speed.

"No!" he squeaked as the feather was taken straight out of his scarf and torn to the other end of the street by the wind. He broke into a run after it. Little did he know the mare was there.

Little Bird
Little Bird walked down the street, glancing every once in awhile at August as he made his way down the road on the other side of the crumbling road where large, rotting monsters sat. It didn't look as though he had figured out that she was just on the other side of the road which was a relief.

Bird let her mind wander as her hooves clicked lightly on the hard ground beneath her. The sunlight filtered through the grey above for just a moment before hiding once again behind the large expanse of clouds. She smiled as August grinned fondly at a feather that he had tugged carefully into his scarf. Just as the wind changed direction, her ears perked at a small squeaked out "No!" The feather drifted toward her, making Bird stop in her tracks. She darted after it, stopping it with a hoof as August trotted toward her. Little Bird gave him a small, nervous smile, glancing between him and the feather. She had certainly been caught red-handed. "Heh. I wasn't following you... I was... going in this direction as well," Bird said with a small chuckle. "I caught your feather though."

Bird lifted her hoof carefully, picking the feather up with her mouth. The strawberry roan mare extended her head, lowering it where August could easily reach for the object in her mouth. "Here you go." Bird said, smiling softly at the young horse.

August
August was so focused on the feather, he hardly saw Little Bird until she darted out of the edge of his vision, stepping down on the feather to prevent it from blowing away. He slowed to a trot and then an eventual stop. He was a couple body lengths away from her. He looked up as she picked the feather up and reached out to him with it.

His eyebrows were arched up, expressing an odd mixture of gratitude and apprehension. "... Thank you," he mumbled after a moment. Taking it gingerly, the foal tucked it back into his scarf. "Y-you're sure you weren't following me?" he asked knowingly, a tentative smirk on his face. It faded as he continued, hoping that Little Bird would understand. "Because I can't show you were I live. Its a secret."

The last mare to find out where he was living had made it a community house, after all.

As much as it worried him that the ranger might have just followed him all the way to the Big Room had the wind and feather not exposed her, he was thankful that she'd been there to catch the feather. Maybe she could be trusted a little bit. She seemed much nicer than what he was used to.

I finally decided to finish this omg. I've been working on it on and off for a few days now. XD
August is such a little cutie!~ I love him to pieces, and Little Bird has become quite protective over his wellbeing, so I thought it was about time that I drew the two of them together. And I took the chance to work on some watercolors as well. I've got a lot to learn, but for this only being my second time using watercolor, I'm pretty happy with this. :3
I hope I didn't mess up August's design too badly. XD
