Description +10 WG and +12 TP for Little Bird

Magdalene
Magdalene caught Little Bird's eye as she gave a resounding hear-hear and her heart inexplicably lurched beneath her ribs. The appaloosa was suddenly riddled with anxiety. She feared for her daughter, feared for the little thief tucked against Birdie's side. She feared that she would not be able to lead, or worse still, that she would lead them into the heart of disaster. Little Bird had made it clear that she believed in their small party, believed with such a raw, earnest optimism that it had Magdalene's skin itching with fret. What if she couldn't match what the mare expected of her? What they all expected of her? She had only been named Protector three days ago --

Stop, she told herself, and shook her head with such a ferocity that her short, rigid mane slapped against her crest.

She was the Protector. She had kept her daughter safe for thirteen years, had swam across the frigid sea with her baby on her back. She had plunged into the thick of a war, carnage in her nose and the taste of blood on her teeth, and shielded her dearest friend from danger. She had looked the Bachelor King in the eye.

Magdalene would lead, she would fight, and she would save those that needed her protection. There was no other option. She would not let there be.

The mare closed her eyes, resolved, and when she opened them again, Little Bird was speaking. Her ears shot forward. "You have been there before?" She asked in her rough voice, brows raising. "Then you are an asset. Tell us what you know as we move forward. Just where these birds are leading us, what we will face along the way... and if you have even an inkling, what you think has happened to our brethren."

Speaking of him reminded Magdalene of Castor's presence. The mare glanced up, spying the oriel's shadow as it swept through the fog, flitting in and out of existence. To her eye, he looked as though he were growing impatient... and Magdalene was beginning to feel the same. "It is time to go. Swiftly, and stay together."

With nothing more said, Magdalene turned and plunged into the marsh.

Little Bird
Little Bird glanced down as August stepped closer to her side, practically gluing himself to her. His eyes were wide, looking to each and every one of the new and strange horses around him. When his eyes eventually landed on Q, she could see him get just a bit closer in fear, though she couldn't blame him. The large, dark stallion was pretty intimidating, and the serious look on his face wasn't really helping with making him look any friendlier.

The roan mare shook out her mane slightly, feeling gnats buzz around her ears. If they didn't start moving soon, the gnats would just get worse, and Little Bird was not fond of bugs biting her. Her brown eyes glanced up at the oriel brother, Castor. He darted about in the sky, disappearing and reappearing in the foggy, morning air.

The Ranger waited anxiously for Magdalene's reaction to her words, feeling her heart clench inside of her chest as she readied herself for yelling, shouting, or a stern scolding for not staying on the island when the Witch had told her to. But, to her relief, the only expression that appeared on the Protector's face was surprise. "Yes, I traveled there with the Witch and the rest of the loners." Little Bird said, nodding her head in affirmation. When the word 'asset' left Magdalene's lips, she could have fainted from the pride and relief that flooded through her. The Protector had just said that she was an asset! "I'll tell everyone all that I know."

When the spotted mare signaled that it was time to leave, Little Bird nodded, looking up at the oriel before glancing back to August. "Stick close. I'll make sure you're safe." She said in a hushed tone, offering the young colt a friendly smile before following after Magdalene into the marsh.

Her hooves sloshed in the wet earth beneath her hooves, and mud slung up, sticking to her legs and belly, but Little Bird didn't let it bother her. She was alright with getting dirty to get things done, and a little mud never hurt anyone, right? Her mind turned from the present back to her memories of the Crescent island: the journey there, the dangers she had faced while there. She would need to tell everyone every little thing she had seen to prepare them for what was to come. "We'll have to cross a landbridge to get to the place where the others are. It's... another island, one that the Witch had kept secret. Getting across the landbridge might be a bit tricky. There are these snakes that cover the path to the island, but the Witch sang this song that soothed them... which might sound a bit crazy, but it worked, and we'll probably have to do the same thing if we would like to remain unscathed." Little Bird explained, looking at each member of their small band of horses.

The Warmblood mare trekked onwards, picking up her hooves that squelched with each step she took in the muddy ground they walked on. "As for what might be troubling them, I'm not very sure. I never saw anything on the island itself that could pose a threat. But whatever it is, the Witch was extremely worried about it." If the Witch herself was anxious about what was on that island, they would have to prepare themselves for the worst.

Keziah
It was the feeling of being watched that made Keziah turn her head, matching eyes with the young August that clung to Littlebird's side. For a brief moment the two stared at each other, not quite sure what to make of another their own age. Every horse the young mare had met so far had been a friend of her mothers, not herself, and so she had only seen other younglings from a distance. After a heartbeat, the strange trance broke as the colt looked away toward the other horses that had now gathered. The girls teal eyes followed his, landing on the stranger called Q, his massive form and steely gaze sending a tingle down her spine. But unlike August, Keziah found the dark horse intriguing.

It was her mother's voice that drew her gaze away, the Appaloosa finally turning to leave and Keziah following at her heels. Where ever they were going, it was going to be new and different and that was all the grey child needed to hear. Careful to shake the mud from her feathers, Keziah trudged on through the marsh with little problem. She was careful to hold her head high, to show no weakness no matter if their party were friend or foe. She was just as prepared for this as any horse.

The walk was silent until Littlebird began to speak again, recalling her last trip to the foreign place. Snakes that calmed to music? Witches that granted magical powers? It all seemed like one big dream that they all had yet to wake to. Perhaps Littlebird was mistaken, too caught up in the grandness of adventure? or Perhaps Keziah was allowing her stubbornness to take hold? Such things had always seemed far fetched.

"What song must we sing, exactly?" She asked the question to no one in particular, still wary of the spotty red horse she knew so little about.  "Can you sing it for us? Or will any song do?" This time, she turned to glance toward the mare, a curious sparkle in her eye. Now that she thought about it, she knew few songs herself. It had never been something that interested her and so, Keziah had never perused it.

Q
The dark stallion stood away from the others, as was in his basic nature.  It had only been recently that he'd been becoming more accustomed to being surrounded by other horses, or even having another horse near him at all hours of the day.  But she was worth it, she would always be worth it. . . Q looked back over his shoulder, staring at the path they had taken to get this far.  Torn between duty to his position and to his family, this had been the most difficult position he had ever been put in. . . And in the end, he'd had to leave his wife and newborn daughter behind to follow their new Protector into the dangerous unknown.

Q wasn't exactly thrilled at the prospect, either.  Nivinara and Nadia were left with a group of strangers, ones he did not know if he could trust to protect them as well as he could.  And thus, a permanently angry and anxious expression had been painted across his heavily scarred face.  If anything happened to them- by the horn, he would have something to say about it!!  In his brooding, Q payed little attention to the orders or explanations of what was going on.  With a huff, he noticed the little black colt's expression upon seeing him, and the reaction was to be expected. . . The Ranger was a sight for sore eyes, with his thick hide littered with scars, and half-blind gaze, but beneath the stiff exterior, something softer did exist. . . it just took a little digging to get there.

He allowed his gaze to continue wandering, perking his ears to listen to Little Bird's explanation of what to expect and what they would encounter.  Interesting. . . this would be very interesting.  When the spotted grullo mare inserted her question, Q turned to her with sadness in his amber eye.  Oh, how she looked like little Nadia. . .  It was genuine heart-ache that he felt now, being away from them.  He'd never once been away from his daughter since the day she was born.  Glancing between Magdalene and Keziah, he smiled at the thought that it might've been the same for the two of them.  The expression was quickly removed, however, and he lifted his muzzle to grunt, "Snakes and singing. . ."

August
When Little Bird began to speak again with Magdalene, August looked up at his friend with a quizzical expression. So that was where Little Bird had been? With a witch? We're witches bad? And yet here they were, heading off to rescue one. August wasn't sure if he was frightened or intrigued. He followed closely as the group began to move out.

Little Bird continued, talking about snakes and magic songs and mysterious islands. He was deathly quiet as he listened to the older mares talk. It seemed something of a fairy tale, all this. August glanced up at the oriel high above. He wished he could talk to the little bird some more. As a kid, the magic of talking animals what more tangible than whatever the adults were discussing. When Keziah spoke, August let his eyes drift back to her, finding the filly to be not only fascinating but also the most approachable besides Little Bird... Despite the fact that she seemed as quiet and cold as her mother. At least she was his age.

A song? As Keziah proposed the idea, August stumbled a bit. The last time he had heard a song had been years ago, with his mother. There was no way Vera ever sang to him. "D-do you remember it?" August added, glancing up at the roan.

-flops- I... finally finished this. XD It only took like 3 hours to paint the entire thing, but I had to spread it out into like a week because things kept popping up that I needed to do, but without further ado, here is my first objective piece for Little Bird. I apologize for anyone's colors being a bit off. I'm still learning how to use watercolors, so things might seem a little off. :'D

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it!
lol I get impatient with it too at times, but for some reason it normally dries pretty quickly for me. XD
But I totally know the pain of having to wait for the paint to dry properly before doing something else in that
area lol.
Thank you! Shading and depth are huge struggles for me, so I'm super happy that they turned out alright!

*clutches the arm next to her* Those are my babies! THOSE ARE MY BABIES DOWN THERE. MY GUMDROPS. LOOK AT ALL THE LITTLE HORSEY BEARDS.

Let me just say I LOVE seeing you venture into watercolor! It meshes really beautifully with your style: crisp, soft color on bold lines. I love the look, especially in places like Little Bird's coat, where the watercolor transitions flawlessly into the paler red-cream of her roaning. <3 It also pleases my inner loner pride that the colors are muted, it looks precisely like where my dumb solitary Magdalene would be spending her time skulking. AND MAGDALENE. WITH HER LITTLE SCOWL AND ADORABLY STOCKY NECK AND WITTLE SPOTS. SLAYS ME. <3

Thank you so much for including my dork and her beeb. ;o; I'M SO HAPPY ASDKJHLKSD;

*screeches like a raptor* THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS INCREDIBLY KIND COMMENT!

OMG I've been reading it over and over again in utter disbelief that you like it that much. ;w;
Watercolors are definitely a TON of fun for me, and I've loved experimenting with them.
The background was a blast to draw and paint. I'm so glad that I pulled off Magdalene's scowl
and her beautiful design!

It was my joy to draw your gal and everyone else in this!~ I love all of the horsey beards!
And thank you for all of the compliments! You definitely made my day!
