Description

Kill la Kill and Akame ga Kill! are two of one of the many anime series I love about a protagonist that joins an anti-hero resistance against a despotic government. Akame fighting a corrupted monarchy and Ryuko saving the world from an organization that plans to use alien parasites to consume their human hosts and detonate the Earth to breed the parasites throughout the universe (Yeah…). They both wield a single blade in combat and have “Kill” in their titles as well as pulling off the red and black color combo. Now which of these two has the skill to own the title of “Kill”?;

Akame- the deuteragonist (person second in importance to the protagonist) of Akame ga Kill. Akame’s origin isn’t exactly a happy tale to tell, her story starts when she was a child her parents sold her and her sister Kurome to the Empire to be trained as assassins. The sisters were forced to participate in a cruel exam of survival by being put inside of a forest inhabited by many monsters known as Danger Beasts; extremely hostile and powerful creatures that will attack any human who dares to wander into their territory. Out of 100 children forced into the exam, Akame and her sister are among the few who manage to survive. They survived by relying on each other but are parted when the leader of the assassin squad Gozuki refused to let the siblings to join the same group, noting that it would be bad for them to depend on each other. Akame was then slected into Gozuki's new Assassin squad; the Elite Seven, and was trained in the arts of espionage and combat becoming a highly effective killer. The seven were each given an Shingu, weapons in which were meant to surpass the power of the Imperial Arms but failed. Akame was given the katana Kiriichimonji, a Shingu where wounds inflicted by this blade cannot be healed. As time passed and after many of her comrades' deaths, she became dissatisfied and resentful towards the government she worked for. One day Akame was assigned and sent to kill a former general of the Empire named Najenda. After being swayed by Najenda’s speech, she defected to the Rebels and joined the Assassin Squad known as Night Raid becoming one of its valuable and iconic member of the series. Her defection from the Empire sparked an intense rivalry between fellow assassins and her sister Kurome, along with a mutual desire to be the one to end the other. Akame is one of the strongest members of Night Raid, slaying even the strongest of enemies with minimal effort. Her assassination training allows her combat ability to be on par with those as powerful as the General rank within the military levels of the Empire. She’s a capable and powerful fighter with remarkable speed and reflexes, being able to dodge and out speed bullets & lightning while counter-attacking with deadly results and is also skilled in hand to hand combat. She gives off no killing intent at all when she fights, making it difficult for her enemies to sense her presence. Apparently Akame can run up to speeds to Mach 1 (velocity of sound in the airflow which is approximately 340 meter per second) and like the other members of the Elite Seven, her body is immune to most poisons. She once wielded Kiriichimonji but when she joined Night Raid she was given the Imperial Arm Murasame, a cursed katana coated in an immensely deadly poison that with a single cut big or small can kill those cut by it within seconds. The poison itself has no antidote so this blade is literally death to all including Akame that contacts with its sharp edge. Murasame's poison can target only one life at a time, so if she impales two targets at once only one will die from the poison. By cutting herself with Murasame while discard her humanity and embrace her inner demon she actives her Trump Card; Ennoodzuno which enhances her strength, speed and durability to massive levels. Her appearance also changes as her scleras (the white outer layer of the eyeball) turn black and red markings appear on their body. She also carries a few Booster Drugs that when taken temporary boost Akame's strength, speed and agility but has a high chance of dulling her senses after it wears off. Akame is an effective and proficient killer as she has killed groups of assassins with and without Imperial Arms, killed the notorious serial killer Zanku the Beheader that had an Imperial Arm that gave psychic abilities like hearing the thoughts of others and accurately predicting their next move, killed Taeko who was an assassin that also has a sword coated with a non-curable poison, assisted in Dr. Stylish’s raid as well as killed his creation Toby, Landed the killing blow on Dr. Stylish's Danger Beast form, defeated a member of the White Brow Association by herself which only one other person has done in history, won in the final fight against her sister while having the upper-hand, and killed General Esdeath probable one of the most powerful Generals of the entire franchise. Akame is skilled but even she has weaknesses; her sword Murasame can also affect her if she isn’t careful, Murasame's poison doesn't work on non-living things and can be avoided by amputating the affected limb before it spreads like what happened in her fight against Esdeath, it is said that Akame has a harder time against armored opponents but she has always worked a way around this situation, also her Booster Drugs and Ennoodzuno has a time limit as the drugs have a chance of dulling her senses once finished and Ennoodzuno is extremely situational.

Ryuko Matoi- the protagonist of Kill la Kill! As a child Ryuko was raised by her father, Isshin Matoi. Ryuko's mother is presumed to have died after she was born, and the relationship between Ryuko and her father is best described as strained and distant. Isshin sent Ryuko to a boarding school where she lived for most of her life. Without parental guidance and being bullied by others, she became a juvenile delinquent, constantly getting into fights and even joined a gang at one point. Six months before enrolling at Honnōji Academy she received a letter from her father saying he wants her to come home. When she returned home, she found him bleeding to death with a red Scissor Blade plunged into his chest. Isshin before he passed away gave her two choices; if she wanted to live a peaceful life she should get up and walk away, but if she wanted to 'fight' in his place she should take the scissor blade, saying that the person who did this to him would be carrying the other blade. Ryuko caught sight of a shadowy female figure out of the corner of her eye wielding the other half of the Scissor Blade. Ryuko ran outside the house but failed to apprehend the fleeing woman. Before she could get back into the house, an explosion was detonated and lit the house ablaze with her father still inside. Ryuko watching in horror, screaming for her father and vowed for revenge. She traveled the world searching for clues until her journey brought her to Honnoji Academy, a school where the student council rules over the other students with an iron fist by using uniforms called Goku Uniforms that grant them special powers depending on their status in the academy. When Ryuko walked in she found the Student Council President, Satsuki Kiryuin, and accused her of killing her dad. After losing in a fight to one of Satsuki’s followers she returned to her old home, upset and blaming herself for being too weak. Suddenly she fell into a trap door and found a strange sailor uniform. The uniform then turned out to be alive, latching itself on to the bleeding Ryuko and using her blood to become a skimpy suit of armor, making her stronger than any Goku Uniform could. Giving it the name Senketsu, the two teamed up and fought up the social classes of Honnoji Academy eventaully making her way to fight Satsuki and discovered who killed her father. Ryuko has very impressive strength, speed, and durability, especially for someone of her age thanks to the fact that she was infused with Life Fibers, sentient parasitic organisms which are used to create Goku Uniforms and Senketsu. Being a human life fiber hybrid she has an increase physicality to superhuman levels in strength, speed, and durability. Even without wearing Senketsu, she can destroy Goku Uniforms with a single slice of her Scissor Blade which was created by her father designed to slice through Life Fibers. She can punch shockwaves that can leave large depressions in stone and send other humans flying, the force of her Scissor Blade swings can form massive gashes in concrete without even touching it, and she sliced apart two buildings from afar without Senketsu like what the hell?! When wearing Senketsu her skin becomes nearly as hard as steel, able to tank a hit that knocked her into a tower which fell but got back up, survived an attack meant to disrupt and destroy Life Fibers, and even survived a fall from orbit! She can run fast enough to create tornados and can create afterimages. Because of the Life Fibers in her body she possesses a healing factor that becomes stronger the closer she is to death, she got her heart ripped out and it reattached itself to her insides and the wound sealed up about a second later, regenerated from getting split in half, had multiple holes ripped in her body by Ragyo (who turns out to be her mother) but then healed all of them in seconds. Despite no form of sword training her skill with her Scissor Blade is decent as she can go toe to toe with Satsuki (who also turns out to be her sister) who is an expert swordswoman. Ryuko even has willpower so great she releases shockwaves. She can do an ability called Infinite Absorption where she lets Senketsu absorb Life Fibers to increase his and Ryuko's power without limit. Her main weapon the Scissor Blade which is made of hardened Life Fibers that is indestructible and sharp, can cut through Goku Uniforms and Kamuis easily. The blade also has a Decapitation Mode where the blade extends to twice the original length, the sword can also shrink to the size of an average scissor for transportation purposes. Ryuko's signature finishing move is Sen'i Soshitsu which activates Decapitation Mode in the Scissor Blade and does a lunging thrust, instantly destroying most Life Fiber-related objects on contact letting Senketsu absorb the Life Fibers and increase his power. After getting the other half of her Scissor Blade from Nui, she combined them together which formed the Rending Scissors; can cut through pretty much anything and can enter a Double Decapitation Mode to double the range. Ryuko can also increase the Rending Scissor to building size and use Final Addressed Mode, the blades are so massive that she sliced Honnoji Academy in on move. Now let’s get into Senketsu, Senketsu’s is a Kamui which are Goku Uniforms made entirely of Life Fibers built by her father specifically for Ryuko. When worn Senketsu boosts Ryuko's power to much higher points than a Goku Uniform can. Ryuko can minor shapeshift Senketsu like forming a blade around her arm, made Senketsu's eye grow out over an entire arena to crush everyone on it, and can remove pieces of Senketsu and throw them at opponents to attack. She can even extend threads from Senketsu to bind opponents, use her Scissor Blade as a makeshift grappling hook, or anchor herself to the ground. Ryuko can enter different forms while wearing Senketsu, as if that wasn’t enough. Senketsu Senjin sprouts multiple blades along Senketsu to attack people with, can form saws from Ryuko's skirt, and can form wolverine blades out of Ryuko's blood. Senketsu Shippu transforms Senketsu's lower half into a jet giving Ryuko the ability to fly. Senjin Shippu is a combination of Senketsu Senjin and Senketsu Shippu's abilities. When her Infinite Absorption absorbs a massive amount of Life Fibers she enters Senketsu Kisaragi, basically becoming super saiyen. In this state, she gains a boost in her abilities past their original potential as well as an increase in flight speed, she can breathe in the vacuum of space, and her healing factors speed is accelerated. So, what can hurt or even kill this chick? Well for starters she’s not a strategist, in fact Senketsu comes up with most of the tactics. If Ryuko gets too angry she will enter a berserker form, gives her a boost in physical strength but continuously drains her blood which could lead to Ryuko dying of blood loss. If threads inside Senketsu are cut, Senketsu will come apart. Ryuko is also kind of hot-headed and brash, always looking for a fight. It is also a possibility that Senketsu is vulnerable to extreme heat as he burned up while falling into orbit to protect Ryuko. Despite her hot-headedness, she might just be one of the deadliest anime girls in history.
