Eva (in an angry squeak): "I'm NOT a princess, I'm a CONJURER!!!"

Drew a kid version of my two FFXIV characters, Eva and Lysandre. I like to think they were childhood friends

In case the proportions between the two kids feel off to non-FFXIV players: that's because the girl is some sort of halfling, and halflings in this game look like oversized toddlers no matter their age. It's also implied their younglings reach their adult size (around 3 ft) very early, so that kids are nearly indistinguishable from adults. No wonder the elve boy looks so scrawny and tiny next to her. He'll vastly outgrow her in adulthood though, as shown below:

Kept the drawing simple as this style kinda fits the subject. Gonna draw more of these pencil+watercolor pics cause it's fun and more relaxing.

Showing a few WIPs cause I just had another random member be nasty to me, again... This time, it was someone hating on AI users who apparently assumed I was one too (I'm not, my stuff might be digital but it's still hand-painted stroke after stroke). Nice way to come back from a mental health break btw, really makes me feel welcome /s

Both born and living in the South Shroud village of Boughbury, Lysandre Alberiaux and Evava Eva bonded over being rejected by their same-age peers: Lysandre, for having a half-Hyur mother and thus looking a bit different from the other Elezen kids; Eva, for being a Lalafell and suffering the ill reputation of her mother - a knowledge-hungry thaumaturge, whose frequent voidsent invocations and other occult shenanigans would anger the Elementals and thus put the whole Shroud at risk of retribution.

One day, as Eva was reading on a bench, a bunch of kids came to molest her, and snatched her book. Lysandre, upon witnessing this, defended the Lalafell girl and retrieved the book, which had been badly damaged. As Eva was crying because the book was an expensive one that belonged to her grandmother, the boy offered to help her repair it... But while they managed to glue the torn pages back together, the adorned cover was beyond saving. Lysandre vaguely promised he'd ask his leatherworker father to craft a new cover, but air-headed as he was, he'd always forget.

The two soon became inseparable, always playing harmless pranks on the townspeople, climbing trees, playing in the mud, and roaming the forest pretending to be a pair of adventurers. Lysandre would play rough and collect bruises as he'd impersonate a knight fending off for his "princess", but Eva would have none of it as she wanted to play as a conjurer, doing mighty magic, healing the injured, and bonding with various forest critters. With time, Lysandre developed a crush on Eva.

Then came the Garlean invasion of Ala Mhigo, causing a massive influx of refugees in the Shroud that the forest residents would firmly oppose. A fraction of the Gridanian population disagreed with that stance and offered the Ala Mhigan refugees to head south, establishing help camps in Thanalan so food and first aid could be provided. Lysandre's parents were among the people willing to help. Taking their reluctant son with them, they departed for Nophica's Wells to establish a camp there. Lysandre remembered the promise he had made to his friend, and urged his father to make the cover for her damaged book before they left. On the day before the departure, he left a package for Eva containing the new leather cover, as well as a note in which he confessed his love for her and promised they'd resume playing together as soon as his parents' mission in Thanalan was over.

The Alberiaux family never came back.

One fateful day, an Ala Mhigan father tried stealing supplies and, upon being caught and in an attempt to flee, panick-killed the few witnesses present, including Lysandre's parents. That event caused such a havoc in the camp no one remembered to check on the now orphaned boy, who was left to roam and steal food from the nearby settlement until he was taken in by a crew of former Roegadyn pirates, slowly forgetting most of his past life in the Shroud.

News of the murdered volunteers reached the Shroud, and Eva learned the hard way how tough and unfair life could be. This furthered her will to help people and influenced her in her career choice: while she obviously couldn't be the princess her now lost friend fancied her to be, she'd become the conjurer companion he would play with. With lots of dedication and the benevolent help of her mentor, druidess Dianette Lunebelle, conjuring left the realm of child's play to become her true calling and life purpose.

Ever since, the book has kept his new leather cover, with the note carefully tucked inside.
