don't weep. everything eventually falls prey to pop culture. and yes... at least ou have old cds

this piece caught my eye because i know this guy.
his expression moves me and i know he is true to his heart.
but also, i love the use of color, i like how gouache dries opaque and the acrylic glossy.
the added digital logos are a perfect accent to this piece.

WOW, what a wonderul critique! Thanks!!

I also love the different ways that the paints dry... keeps the art-making process a little interesting! I'm glad you noticed the difference in the two kinds of paint!

Now, I must go listen to my old CD's!

Oh this is fantastic, I love it! The colours are so bright and intense, and al the shapes are really like... they scream for the viewer to look at them. I love how everything is so bright yet it somehow captures a dismal mood and atmosphere, with the character's gloomy expression and posed and his aging features. The colours are gorgeous - the way you've used greens with reds and basically put colours together that are slightly... unusual... but work! looks really really nice. The text looks great as well and tells us what era this is about [as if we couldn't tell by his hairstyle and stuff!] the hands are really nicely drawn as well. All the features of him look great as they're so exaggerated but still work - I love how its not beautiful either - I get sick of seeing pictures of people made all pretty and beautiful etc, stuff like this looks a lot more gritty and down-to-earth.

Okay enough fangirlism! *adds to faves*

How deliciously prophetic!

I oughta show this to my punk rock sister. She'd flip, no doubt! But then she'd probably kick me in the face.

The band logos in the background add a nice touch.

Thanks! LOL... as a fan of punk rock (well, REAL punk rock...), I have to say that this topic is a little painful yet funny to me. But I'll always have me old CD's I guess.

As far as your sister is concerned... we need to educate her up right! Give her some Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Circle Jerks, Minor Threat and Bad Religion!

TheGlome In reply to bmoss [2005-01-19 20:46:46 +0000 UTC]

Personally I can't say i've listened to any REAL punk rock. Perhaps i'll check it out too.

But my sister is a hopeless case. She dresses like those schmucks in Good Charlotte... it's kind of scary... and every picture of them she finds she pastes to her wall.

Nicely done~

I remember studying classic Punk and Punk culture for my A-Level exam.

And i just thought. Today is a far less colourful~ more boring~ more conformed state of affairs and it made me sad.

This makes me happy though. i like it. ^_^

How cool, that a course like that is offered! I agree with you wholeheartedly. There seems to be a lot more "follow the herd" kind of thinking these days. Sigh.

Thanks, though! And I'm glad it makes you happy!

unfortunately i went a bit mad during my exam period did the 12 hour exam and handed in no work after and so failed. ah hah

bmoss In reply to xam [2005-01-10 18:29:39 +0000 UTC]

Damn, xam! Thanks, man... I was hoping something more than just plain old "modern punk music sucks" would come through. In a lot of ways, I see true "punk" as a social activism culture... and like the music component, it seems to have been sold out and dumbed-down these days, yet it still has die-hard adherants who didn't seem to get the memo.

I dunno. Mountains out of molehills?

Thanks for opening up a great discussion about it, brother man.

each 'movement' comes *out* of the society it seeks to separate itself from.. a wave may rise up and crash on the shore but eventually it will go back to being a part of the sea.. theyre intrinsically linked. the grand gestures of the october 1917 revolution as extreme as it was still had only a limited lifespan.. the wave MUST come home to the sea eventually. the only true 'revolution' that has it's independence is one that will come from 'visitors' to this planet. they are beyond this 'ocean' and can affect us in new ways.

theyll prbably do this by laughing hysterically at our

religious ideas
sexuality
societal norms
clothes and tastes
carnivorous tendencies
crude and puny energy uses
disrespect for other living things
taking ourselves so seriously

then they'll give us a hug, say its all ok and then help us to grow up!

Look at you ~ Mr. Socio-Political Art Guy! Great as usual. I can never find anything to complain about. Oh wait, I did have this dream the other night that you were with me and some friends and we went to a movie and I guess you had one too many boxes of Milk Duds because you started jiving like a turkey in the aisle.

Punk is dead. Move along, people. There's nothing to see here! Move along!

OR... hell, do something about the smoke/burning/health/environment issue going on with ya right now... it could be both scathing and funny!

ANYway... that wasn't a dream.
