full title:fantasmas y alcoholes en el día después del día de los muertos
or:
spirits and "spirits" on the day after the day of the dead
this is the painting I started while painting live at the Dallas Urban Arts Festival.
it's also the first SIGNIFICANT painting I've been able to do since my daughter was born in 2005.
it's in a Día de los Muertos art show tomorrow in Shreveport, La.
feels nice.

I LOVE this, and good for you to celebrate. Weird, I recently viewed a bunch of lithos in Chicago from the 1940s, celebrating day of the dead, ah so to speak. Great peice. Hope you are well.

The reason I chose it? Well, I was invited to be part of a Dia de los Muertos art show... and I wanted to do something humorous yet not disrespectful of the holiday.
It occurred to me that I has never seen any art that focused on the "day after" all of the Dia de los Muertos celebrations, so I decided to paint something that showed the spirits of the dead recovering from all of that partying with the living!
