Description Starcraft 2: Protoss Nexus
Modeled by Robb Shoberg & Phill Gonzales, final texture pass by Ted Park!

The Protoss Nexus went through many small changes. As a primary structure, the scale was adjusted often, specifically the pyramid shape in the middle. The only significant overhaul was done with the intention of increasing the polycount on the curved surfaces around the Nexus.

I always did love the look of the protoss Nexus from the first time I saw one in SC1. (In fact, protoss are my favorite SC race, although I both love and hate the zerg--love them because they remind me of the xenomorphs from the Alien movies, hate them because they are SO GROSS! EWWW! ) Have to say that the new Nexus design makes me think of the movie Stargate (one of my favorites, if only for Anubis and the Horus guards--Patrick Tatopolous for the win!)--I can easily see Ra cruising around the galaxy in that beauty.

I'm sure I've said this before, but all of the designs from SC1 & 2 are wonderful. Being able to see the designs "up close" like this, and reading your comments about how they came about, I can see how a lot of thought and effort went into making each race's desgins believable and coherent. Excellent work all around!

Damn, now you've made me want to see a movie version of StarCraft! (Hmm... I can imagine Tricia Helfer playing Kerrigan [again], but who would we cast as Raynor?)

One of the first things I remember noticing about the Protoss in SC1 were their Egyptian designs. The nexus and reaver especially (OH GOSH THE REAVER I MISS IT). I do admit that I kinda miss it a little in 2, but I'm definitely not complaining. The new Protoss design is awesome in 2. Nexus definitely included.

Unfortunately the Obelisk was cut from Multi, but it would have tied things together nicely with more Egyptian styles!

I tried playing protoss while shrooming and I tell you - nothing is more scarier than the nexus. After that day nexuses have always reminded me of Incan or Aztecan pyramids.

Hahahahahaha, the most I've done is play SC2 drunk, which just enhanced my internet shit talking and lowered my APM to rock bottom.

is it just me or do all Protoss buildings (and tech) have an ancient Egyptian influence? I see it in the immortals "heads", or is it just wishful thinking?

Protoss are still undergoing many different style treatments, and there is definitely an Egyptian influence in their designs. The fact that they're ancient, as well as making their structures look intangible to mass produce due to the scale and complexity of the shapes are also motivations for the Protoss look.
