Calls from Ross were never unwelcome, however, calls from Ross while he was at work could be...worrisome to say the least. Though she'd never tell him, Maria always got antsy when he called at a time not in sync with his normal schedule.
There was always that fear, that fear that the call would be him saying goodbye, or that it wouldn't be him at all. Of course, again,
these were things she'd never tell him- she didn't want to make him feel guilty for worrying her; after all they were always fine at the end of the day.
Sucking in her breath, Maria watched the name light up on her screen for a few moments longer, thumb hovering over the button.
He was fine, sure, he was way earlier than normal in his call- but maybe he just forgot something he needed and wanted her to bring it in
or he'd had a bad call and needed to vent. Normal things. Simple things.
Everything was fine. Using said husband's stolen jacket to cover her face, Maria finally slid the green button, picking up the call
as she continued her trek home, hand clutching her purse strap firmly, steps quick yet steady against the oncoming rain.
She waited a moment, the sense of anxiety still not leaving her; it normally was gone once she was certain it was him. "Ross?"
"Maria." the urgency immediately made her stomach drop, her breath hitching a little as she stopped walking, focusing entirely
on his voice now. "Stop whatever you're doing and get somewhere secure. You're in danger right now. I'm coming to get you, okay?"
There was that lovely anxiety increasing. The feline felt herself shudder a little, what perfect timing to be out in the open. Her ears reared back
instinctively whilst Maria herself tried to keep her tone even; she didn't want to make the situation worse by panicking herself.
"O-Okay-" turning on her heel the cat headed back to her work- somewhere secure. Plenty of people, plenty of people she knew and trusted.
She just needed to get back through the crosswalk and wait there. Ross would come get her. Everything would be fine. She'd be fine.
"Ross..? I love you."
"I love you too, honey."

EDRFTGYHUJI. LORD. UGH. I dunno why I thought putting myself through this would be fun. BUT!!! I did it!!
I've admittedly wanted to draw this scene for days dhfugj. I brought this up to my friend a few days ago- we originally had
Maria kidnapped by a mafia after Ross didn't follow their warnings so well- but then I thought 'why not make it way more painful by letting him be there
just out of reach?'. Yep. I'm a bad mother to my OCs.
No worries Maria does not die. I could never do that to Ross or Maria lol I love them both way too much. She does wind up
hospitalized for a while and probably needs time to recover, but she's okay in the end. For anyone who might not get it upon first look,
she's hit by a car, not attacked in the open. Ross is threatened but doesn't listen and so they go after Maria, taking her out in a hit and run
so they can still keep their identities safe...eh for the time being that is--
I really wanted to attempt blurry backgrounds again cause last time I failed-- but this time!! Everything turned out really nice
at least to me it did!! I'm super happy with how this came out -v- even if it is a very brief moment before the sads.

This is pretty cool, my gal, top notch work there
My only suggestion is if you were to work on the backgrounds a bit more is all, but for what it is its pretty dang good, you put a lot of work on the detail of the foreground ^^

And fwaaa yeah- admittedly it was actually pretty detailed prior to the lineless translation, but I got
sidetracked a few times while drawing so not everything I originally sketched came through into the final product ;;
