A soft sound made her snap her head to the right. A large fat rat was snuffling through the debris searching for sustenance.
For a moment it distracted Aubra, and she watched it scurry around. But the hunger made her move, her conscious mind overwhelmed by her primal nature. In the flash of the rodent’s beady eye she had moved across the space and snatched it in a long nailed hand that she didn’t recognize as her own.
She hunched over it like a prize, her mouth fell open and saliva flowed over her lips. The rat didn’t have time to react before she sank her fangs into its flesh, sucking and brutally squeezing the blood from its furry body. There was so little of the precious fluid, she growled and glared at the crushed corpse.
