I DON'T WANT TO REDESIGN THEM AGAIN BUT I HAVE TO AND I'LL PROBABLY DO IT AGAIN

I'm gonna be 100% real: I have absolutely no idea how to design this kid. I have redesigned them two times, and I'm still not satisfied. I love Neleus, I love their story, I love their concept. I just cannot get their look right.

However, this is the most satisfied I've been so far. I prefer the simplified clothing more than the cluttered, multi-layered clothing. I simplified the scale colours, and had them follow a more sensible pattern on the body. I might get rid of the gradient in the hair, and either make it solid pink or solid blond. I like the eyes, I like the headfins. I'm not 100% happy, but it's on the right track.

I think I'm disappointed with their merperson traits. I don't know whether I want to make them look more human, or more like a sea creature. My goal, right now, is for them to not be conventionally attractive, and a little uncanny to look at. I want their face to not look quite right; something is off about it, because Neleus isn't quite human. I hope that makes sense.

EDIT: Changed Neleus' full name. I've decided that Kraken names work differently, with the first name being the 'family' name instead, and the last name being unique. Neleus' family name is 'Koi', making their full name 'Koi Neleus'. Since I changed Branch's last name to 'Copperpock', this is also Neleus' married surname later on.

Accent/Voice/Speaking: A very, very softspoken and nearly whispered tone. Neleus is afraid of talking, and thus, tries to do it as little as possible. While they don't have a stutter, they have a very repetitive and unfocused way of speaking, often using 'um', 'you see', and 'oh' several times in a sentence. They have a Northern English sounding accent (think a mix of Irish and British). Their voice does not take on a masculine, nor feminine tone; it is very neutral.

Very, very close to Evelyn . Deeply affectionate to each other.
Godparent to Primrose. Instinctively protective of her; textbook mama bear and her cub.
Long lost sibling of Waterlily. Has a decent, but hesitant relationship with them.

Personality/Backstory: Neleus can be described as an introverted extrovert. They absolutely love socializing and making friends, but at the same time, they don't really know how to do it. Being a sea creature with a deadly voice, Neleus is terrified of the idea of accidentally hurting someone just by talking to them. Past their crippling paranoia, Neleus is very talkative, and loves explaining things to people. They don't quite understand "normal" speech patterns, and will sometimes use things like figures of speech and expressions wrong. They will often bluntly state facts if they believe someone does not know them. Once getting to know Neleus, one will meet a very selfless, kindhearted person. Perhaps they're a little odd, but they're very sweet, and very endearing to most. Their demeanor can be compared to that of a child, because they never really learned how to communicate as an adult.

Neleus was born from a merman father and a siren mother, which is looked down upon. Their father was killed by their mother's clan when they were still a baby as punishment, but Neleus and their mother were allowed to live under strict supervision. Neleus' mother almost completely censored the cruelty of her people from them, until she was eventually killed as well, and Neleus was exposed to the reality of the world they lived in. Being a child born from scandal, Neleus was emotionally, psychologically, and physically abused on a near daily basis. They were never taught how to use or control their magic, resulting a short magical outbursts that would only make their tormentors angrier.

Neleus escaped when they were eight years old. They took off into the sea, and never went back. They luckily came across Spindlecliff, a remote island where they could coop themselves away, where no one could hurt them, and more importantly, they couldn't hurt anyone else.

Neleus is partially deaf and mute. They are completely deaf in the left ear, due to being struck across the head several times as a very young child. They are selectively mute, meaning that some situations leave them either unwilling or unable to speak.
They are language adaptable, meaning they can understand and speak any language they are faced with. This includes sign language.
After meeting Branch and entering a happy, healthy relationship with him, Neleus leaves Spindlecliff and goes to live with him in Toffington, where they slowly adapt to human culture.
Neleus is the first non-human to be accepted into Toffington University, where they earned their bachelor's degree in Veterinary Science.
Neleus' voice has the power to knock out, kill, and brainwash, if they wish. However, it also has the ability to treat insomnia, night terrors, and sleep paralysis as well. Neleus sings the best lullabies in the country, it's said, and is often hired to help treat patients suffering from sleep troubles.
Neleus can change their appearance to appeal to their hypothetical victim. Though they would never harm anyone, it's just an ability all concubi have. They can change things like height, weight, figure, hair length, masculinity, femininity, etc. Not only can they shapeshift to meet a victim's desires, they can also change their voice to be higher or lower.
While Neleus hates violence, they are absolutely terrifying and very dangerous in battle. Claws, fangs, spitting, hissing, biting, etc. Concubi enter somewhat of a blind rage, and don't snap into reality until they completely mutilate the opponent, or are stopped in some way by another circumstance.
Against everyone's expectations, Neleus was the one to propose to Branch. They did this in the only way they knew how; searching the beach for three days and three nights, looking for the most perfect shell they could find. The one they chose was a plain white one, with a small crack, but it was the one, and they presented it to Branch one night when they were alone. Thankfully, Branch had previous knowledge about the mating habits of merpeople, and knew what was going on immediately. (And of course he said yes.)
One wouldn't be able to tell Neleus was a concubus unless they said so, because Neleus barely resembles their own species due to their heavily different diet, habits, and lifestyle. To avoid panic, Neleus just says that they are a merperson when asked. I mean, technically, they're not lying.

Someday, somehow, this character will be complete.
