Description Whenever I hit a rough patch in life, it's always comforting to have good friends and family to see me through.

This is a drawing of my buddy Fred and I hanging out after my big break up with Lisa. We used to hang out in the back of our elementary school on this embankment that overlooked the community. It was a great place to get away from everybody and talk over things, weather it be girl problems, family problems, school problems... This is when I was a kid, so we would usually drown our sorrows with Jolt cola, Hostess Pudding Pies and Muncho potato crisps. Not really the smartest thing, since it more likely gave us sugar rushes.

Was the embankment really full of graffiti?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BobbyRubio In reply to IcyAshford [2010-12-10 23:53:50 +0000 UTC]

yes there was graffiti there. But, it wasn't a dangerous place to hang out. The graffitti seemed to be mostly done by bored kids, not gangs.

I know. I'm just amused that you can draw on... earth? Or is that concrete?

I remember times like these. The lighting here and little you's "recovering smile" with sunken posture really sell the mood perfectly. ^_^

And Fred. He seems like a good friend.

It's funny how certain kinds of places seem to be comforting when for all practical purposes they should be very uncomfortable. I chalk it up to having a place out of sight, off the beaten path, and "safe." It's those kinds of places adults eschew and only your friends are agile or daring enough to visit. There was an abandoned house overlooking a cliffline (300 foot drop straight into the ocean) where I used to hang out with friends. Scary place looking back but the view was awesome. For us it was Mountain Dew and Violet Crumble. Ew. Shudder.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BobbyRubio In reply to zeustoves [2010-06-04 00:32:18 +0000 UTC]

Zues, you totally get what I was going for... Man, I guess we just grew up at the same time and have similar tastes. Mountain Dew, NICE!

An abandoned house sounds like a really cool hideout! Is it still around, or did some vagrants find it and are now squatting in there?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

zeustoves In reply to BobbyRubio [2010-06-04 00:54:05 +0000 UTC]

Actually it was on prime real estate so it must be developed by now - that was forever ago. We used to bring people up there, not tell them anything, act all despondent, go running over the edge (there was a landing with a four foot drop just at the edge) so it looked like we leaped like 350 or so feet into the ocean. This is the cliff line BTW, [link] Imagine Really cruel but damn funny. THAT drop.

I'm digging what you're doing - the biographical nature of your work is something I am considering for a short I'm writing about a trip I took to Taipei and back.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BobbyRubio In reply to zeustoves [2010-06-04 20:23:33 +0000 UTC]

Wow that is a gorgeous view. Where is that? Hawaii... That is funny about jumping onto the landing and freaking out your friends.

I'm glad to inspire you into doing some writing. Taipei sounds very interesting, you gotta let me know when you finish it.

It's actually Guam. Much smaller than Hawaii.

Hope to have that story done next year so, will do.

what possible bad decisions could be made under the influence of JOLT? I remember walking home from school and stopping at the store for a quart of Hershey's Chocolate milk, a big bag of Peanuttle and a bag of Circus peanuts. All of which to be consumed before dinner. Ah....to have that metabolism again. The things I could do.

Ah man, I remember Peanuttle... damn a bag of that and Circus Peanuts?!!! ain't that too much nuttinest put together. Like Nuttinest overload. At least you downed it with Chocolate milk. It's like a big ol' Reeses shake or something... or maybe not, gotta lay off the JOLT... That stuff is like CRACK!

SethKearsley In reply to BobbyRubio [2010-06-04 01:11:56 +0000 UTC]

Circus Peanuts are those Orange marshmallowy candies. Not peanuts at all. IT's like grandma candy. Those and the pink lozenge like candies that are the same color as Pepto Bismal. MMMMMMM Pepto!

I am not super selective about teh flavor; they all taste pretty good to me. However, the lemon one is prolly my favorite. Everytime I eat anything Hostess I feel as bad as when I start smoking again. I know they are bad for me but I like them so much. Someone asked me once why I smoke. Having no real response I said something glib/smarmy like "Since we're going to die amyways, I figure I will smoke while I wait." While that is basically a load of crap it does kind of sum up why I don't worry too much about things that are bad for me. I think I am going down to the 7-11 for a pie right now.
