All those railway books...who'da thunk?

Speaking of trains and railways, have you ever read The Lunatic Express by Charles Miller?
Seems like it would be right up your alley.

Yeap, just can't decide. Here's one that is so easy, read a comic.

bobthedalek In reply to BB-K [2016-07-29 20:58:50 +0000 UTC]

Nah, that's harder for me. Being an illustrator I keep stopping and starting at almost every frame to look at the detail in the artist's drawings

BB-K In reply to bobthedalek [2016-07-29 23:49:16 +0000 UTC]

No, I'm referring to the husband, with so many books to read, which is text-only based, the obvious answer among the books is to read a comic instead.

"Nothing sends you off to sleep quite like railway engineering drawings and technical data!"

Very true! I've spent hours at a time on lner.info.

Random question - do you have a favourite of the big four railway companies, and a favourite class of steam loco?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

bobthedalek In reply to nutbar0 [2016-07-29 21:09:52 +0000 UTC]

I can't say I have a favourite of the big four, as there are a few factors of each that I like (You could say I'm a British Railways kind of person! )

As for engine classes, again, there isn't really a favourite one, but a few of my favourites are the Ivatt Atlantics, the Y6s/J70s, and the Stroudley terriers to name a few.

nutbar0 In reply to bobthedalek [2016-07-30 04:42:10 +0000 UTC]

LNER used to be my favourite, and to some extent still is, but my appreciation for the other three is a lot higher than it used to be.

I do have a favourite class though and that is the P2 with the original front end. So excited that the group who built Tornado are building one!

It is, Octamum, it really is ... my bedside stack currently consists of:

"Snow Crash" - Neal Stephenson
"Anathem" - Neal Stephenson
"The Hydrogen Sonata" - Iain M. Banks (RIP)
"The CMOS Cookbook" - Don Lancaster
"The Engineer's Handbook" - Forrest Mims
"Handmade Electronic Music: The Art Of Hardware Hacking" - Nic Collins

Electronic schematics are probably as good an insomnia cure as railway engineering drawings

The Complete Encyclopedia of Battleships" Tony Gibbons
