Description Norfolk and Western #433. A 4-8-0 "M" class built in 1907 by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO). Shown here under roof and on display in Abington, Virginia at the trail head for the "Virginia Creeper" rail trail.

Needs a coat of paint but otherwise looks to have been well cared for. Sister N&W #475 currently operates at the Strasburg Railroad in Pennsylvania with a couple of other N&W "M" class sisters saved for display from the infamous "Lost Engines of Roanoke" group.

Wait, so these locos were forgotten about for 60 years?

Not forgotten about as much as just not used. They were sold to the scrap yard at the end of N&W steam and merely sat in place as the scrap yard never bothered to cut them up. Railfans have known about them for a number of years. The resources to purchase and move them from the scrap yard to various displays just happened in the last few years.
