What truly pisses me off is the idiocy of removing Confederate statues anywhere; next they will try the battlefield memorials.

(Nice shot.)

Quite a delicate issue, the main distinction as I see it lies within underlying intent for anything dedicated to the Confederacy. Some will use it for hate & racial discrimination which I find to be completely unacceptable.

Then again, and as the adage goes: "Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it". Gettysburg National Military Park is a great reminder of that, commemorating both Union & Confederate forces who suffered great losses... but ultimately celebrating a stronger unified nation that much of the world has come to rely upon for protection (in my opinion).

As such I do not think memorials like this should be removed. If anything they should serve as testaments to history whether good or bad, just as long they were built to honor history without prejudice.

I had a lot more to say, but figured I might be removed from DA for doing it.
I am extremely biased now; "they" taught me that, having had my nose rubbed in their ways and
attitudes most of my adult life, ever working in low class jobs, & with such.  Didn't start that way.
(Prejudice is ignorance with preconceived ideas about something; bias/experience is a learned opinion.)

I visited Gettysburg once. I was a little disappointed by disproportionate representation of the 20th Maine's commemoration compared to others. It was still a neat experience.
