Thanks Mark! I haven't had the chance to explore New Jersey yet, but nearby in Pennsylvania you can find many rustic scenes like this which I flock to like a holy photo Pilgrimage

I have a soft spot for the C&O Canal in Maryland after volunteering to take photos for the National Park Service within its Edwards Ferry section. Pretty far away from Paw Paw Tunnel pictured here I visited a few months later, but it is a truly spectacular stretch of 150+ uninterrupted miles of historic trail including this tunnel.

Sure is an interesting tunnel. What's it story? Did they run out of funds for it to be a road tunnel?

Beautifully photographed it is.

Thanks Quite a bit of history behind Paw Paw Tunnel and the C&O Canal, think it used to work like a highway for boats pulled by mules & horses along the path before the age of cars. Most interesting part for me was walking through it. Still open to pedestrian access, but kind of need a flashlight as it's about half a mile long with no indoor lighting

I was thinking that it was a boat tunnel before they decided to put a foot-path, It never occurred to me about those old mule-pulled barges of yester-years. Such great remnants of old relics of a bygone era. These things are sure important to the trade and to lives of the people who lived then, as much as planes and cars is of now. It's lovely that it's still being maintained and being of use.

Thank you for the helpful info.

Welcome, glad you can appreciate the history. The boats no longer run the Canal as it's dried up in many places, but the National Park Service still preserves the historic trail / towpath in beautiful condition for walking and cycling through over 150 uninterrupted miles. Lots of old buildings & ruins along the way, so when out of ideas the Canal is always worth exploring some more
