I'm finding it's really interesting to wonder how their relationship would have grown over the years, if Sasuke hadn't experienced the tragedy of losing his family early in life...

mmm... good question...
on my point of view....
I feel like it wouldn't be too much differences... I mean, if the Uchiha tragedy didn't happen...
and still the dead of Minato and Kushina, happened...
well, Naruto would be still being the same, so Sasuke would still acting like well... Sasuke... he is not someone who will feel pity for someone like Naruto who will still making everything to get attention... (remember all of his pranks??) but he could also in the end understand that Naruto just does those because he is alone and I don't know... but I have the feeling that their rivality it could be stronger in the beginning because Naruto jealousy (though he won't ever admit that he just want a family like Sasuke's....) and well... once they notice that they have somethings in comum (we need to remember that though Sasuke was happy living with his family he felt inferior next to Itachi... so, like not being part of his family at 100%) so, they will end understanding at each other with time and turn into their only and best friends (and probably in this case it would be more obviously their bond and relationship)

but well... who knows
that was just my opinion ^^ ^^ (I know, a bit crazy)
