Description
As a lot of people might know I haven't really been active with the story of the herd growing, simply as it bored me at some point and I couldn't make myself get back to it at all. After having some chat's with people and planning ahead here shall start the proper stuff, I had to spend some time thinking of the lore. As well Recently getting a new mare, she is the perfect subject in this case.
As well yes I know Odin is meant to be a yearling but it's boring to write with a kiddo so he will get an age up
2 years passed since Kashmir allied with Horus and Armeus
Little introduction to how this happened -> Animation
Kashmir and his herd were minding their business, when the raven came over after scouting area around. There was a sound herd in the distance and it was a horse that got caught by a human. Already one roped, Kashmir galloped to help ending up with a rope as well. The two stallions had to work together to overpower the human on horseback. Once they succeeded they kept the ropes as a symbol of new friendship.
Later on, a stallion was moving near the two herds and came into contact. Horus and Kashmir were quite similar and realized that they share a mother which started a great friendship. The 3 stallions combined their power and are now working together to keep their herd safe and sound. Exploring the desert to uncover the secrets of the sand is hiding.
Now for the actual story
As the 3 herds grew in power each horse got a proper job to fulfill, such as scouting and taking care of the wounded. There is also much more than just simple herd roles as the desert herd happens to live close to ancient areas where people used to live. Many ruins in the sand, Oasis and Altos Rock which became something of a symbol of power.
Armeus being the one believing in the gods controlling the elements, while Kashmir is a more skeptical stallion but he does believe that some things can get a little help from above. The herd now has Shamans, the ones that take care of the dead, as Altos rock is more than just a fancy stone, there is much more underground. Which in this case, we find there catacombs filled with the bones of passed horses. People used to seal the souls of their fallen mounts to keep the spirits safe, now the wild herd is interpreting it in their own way. One of the shamans is Odin, the firstborn son of Kashmir. Now 3 years old, still cocky but much more mature.
Being blind is not an asset but the young stallion does treat it as something good, with better senses then others he can do many things. Which is why he scouts from time to time to look and scavenge around the desert. He finds bones, some grass from time to time and many other things that he brings back to the herd. With the tradition around bones he collected enough to pull together into something of a bone necklace. Intimidation seems to be his thing as he doesn’t like to fight. Black paint on his face and braids all give him an interesting effect. Of course scaring off any curious creatures.
It was the middle of the day, bit windy as the sand way brushing the stallion’s legs. It was hot and Odin ventured out to scavenge, maybe he will find some interesting things? Who knows? Sniffing around the air, listening to the sounds in the distance and flickering his ears. At some point he heard a voice ”Hey Kiddo!
The dominant white stallion turned towards the sound, later hearing hooves moving the sand and huffing.
Odin simple started moving towards the noises, later hearing that it wasn’t his father that was breathing loudly. Already pinning his ears in curiosity. ”Hey dad” he said with a calm tone.
The lead stallion came in closer, smiling as always. “You venturing into the wild again Odin? Haven’t you found enough treasure?” the blood bay let out a small chuckle.
As he said that a mare spoke up with another small huff ”Umm who is this?”. A gentle tone in voice of a young mare. Odin was already pinning his ears, as he can’t see but other sounds give him more information.
Kashmir looked over to the black mare, she was tired. ”This is my son Odin, he also my right hand and shaman of the herd, Odin this is Koko. She ventured into the desert with a stallion sadly he passed due to lack of water. So she will stick with us”. The mare only nodded, she didn’t realize yet that the dom white stallion is blind. ”Nice to meet you Odin”, she gave a small smile.
Kashmir looked at his son then at the mare, later on a small grin showed up on his face. ”You know Odin, if you are coming back to the herd why not take Koko with you. You can be her guide I’m sure you two will get along”. If was obvious the lead stallion wanted his son to spend some more time with the mares, he was young and strong. Of course keeping a slightly suggestive tone of voice just for a joke.
Already Odin looking a bit confused. ”Really?! Why me? I’m not even good for a guide I just… eh”, he isn’t the master of lies and running away from orders. ”Sure. But don’t complain if something happens”. Last chance to get the job of his shoulders.
Kashmir still grinned ”Oh come on son, you need some company not just the catacombs plus a young lady will like to learn from someone with such a high rank as lieutenant”, pushing the idea of the mare keeping company to the young stallion.
Odin simply let out a huff in surrender. ”Fine I’ll take care of her”, maybe he grew up but he still was a bit of a pain in the ass. Firstborn son having his own ideas right?
Kashmir just said quietly to the mare ”Don’t worry he only acts like that, in reality he is a sweetheart”, after that he starter to walk away smiling to himself. ”Best of luck with him”, small laugh to end it.
Odin already pulling his ears down as he did hear what his father said there, better hearing was on his side. ”DAD?! Eh…”.
Few moments later and the blood bay was gone, leaving the two there. Koko still having a small huff. ”It’s boiling here, how do you manage to walk around here?”, she asked curiously.
Odin stood there still a little confused about the situation. ”Well, I was told my coat is light colored which reflects the sun…I think that’s how it works”.
”Wait you were told? But you are white, you can’t see?” Took her a moment to realize that the stallion had greyed out pupils on both eyes, he was 100% blind. ”Oh my gosh I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to..”, the stallion cut her off.
”It’s all right, I was born like this so I am quite used to it, as well that was my point on not being the guide, not much use of a blind guy leading someone right?”
The mare only looked down at the sand. ”Then how do you find your way back? Your dad told me you like to go out beyond the borders and scavenge? How do you return if you can’t see your way back?”. She looked at the stallion curiously.
”I listen to the sounds and find smells, it’s easy to hear a herd with many horses being noisy as well as it’s simple to smell them from afar.” He smiled. ”Well come on, you seem to be tired, I can hear your breathing heavily, the desert isn’t safe if you come here without a good drink.” Odin started to walk slowly. Leading the mare, soon she will see the place she will call home and have a good drink, her tongue was drier than the Sahara desert.
