These are so awesome! How do they attach to the sword itself?

there are two blanks fabricated from a large piece of bone.each of those blanks was then very carefully shaped to size and carved with a channel on the back that matches one half of the thickness of the tang along with it overall width and taper. once i had the blanks to fit perfectly together I carved it.

Fitting the blanks was the MOST important part of the whole operation cause if they dont fit together perfectly ya cant carve them. I used a very very strong 2part epoxy to adhere them to the sword,I would have used pegs but the sword had no holes in the tang and the owner did not want any drilled. The cross guard and the pommel could not be taken off so i had to fit them inplace as best as i could.

Ah, ok. I did wonder, as I thought that usually you would put pegs or rivets through the tang for stability and durability. I wondered if maybe you had, and had done a fantastic job of hiding the evidence!

If i was using pegs i would have fit the pegs before carving the pieces, then carved it so it would have blended as best as possible.

I have no doubt, which is why I asked. Seeing no sign of them didn't mean they were not there.
