Description First off, Happy (belated) Birthday, Vanessa! Hope you like it!

So yes, here's my second piece for the summer, the Joker! I did a face portrait of him before, and that was fun to do but on my mission to do full bodies (or close enough!) of all those simple faces, the Joker got his turn when I found out that 'Nessa (lol, does anyone call you that?) digs the Joker! I always wanted to do the Joker similar from the animated series from the 90's, but I love some of the features of Ledger Joker too much to not implement them. Anyway, playing with perspective is a lot of fun! It opens new doors to creativity and I think is one of the best ways for me to learn to practice new poses and what not.

Also, if you hadn't notice, I think this piece, by far, has the best line art I've done digitally. I've been sketching up pieces on paper and I tried several poses for the Joker. I found one I liked, inked it, and scanned it. I tried to keep the paper as clean as possible, so that I way I could just layer the line art and color it underneath...Turns out nothing is THAT white lol. I had to redo the lines but it was easy as I could just trace the scanned image.

Sooo...yeah, I tried some new stuff coloring today, and I think it was somewhat a success...what do you think? I need to learn how to color like the pros! Is it a program they use? Their awesome skills!? Pros out there, please shed some light on your awesomenesscosity!

Here's the old Joker that I did after Dark Knight came out to compare: [link]

Well so that's it for now...I'm gonna scan a new sketch I did yesterday (I have a huge headache from playing basketball for 5 hours, doh!) and work on it tomorrow. It's so wicked, I think many of you will all heart it! The hint is that he/she/it (not telling you!) is a character from Nintendo and Hal Laboratory's hit game, Super Smash Brothers Brawl!

Once again, Vanessa, I hope you like your gift!

peace!!

Edit***6/14/09

Okay, so I wasn't completely happy with the old one and redid it...slightly. I changed the perspective of the card and addressed the stiff pose and squished thumb...the angle of the hand holding the card in the old one was terrible!

Please compare the two and let me know what you think!

Soo...differences with the new: added new textures to the clothes, new background, redrew certain areas, fixed up the hair, changed the eyes.

Enjoy! Hope you like this newer version as well, Vanessa!

Dude, excellent work again! Your really going all out this summer, aren't you. Anyways, nice perspective and comic book-ish style (which namely shows in the glove I noticed), suits the joker well. I also like how he has a knife hidden behind the card in his other hand, watch out for that "trick", he might make it DISAPPEAR! XP

Thanks Dan! And yes, he'll make it to disappear...IN YO BRAINS!!! lol!

Perspective really brings out posing and what not, so I'm happy to finally explore it. It's hard though, and I'm working on another piece at the moment, I've been at it since 9 revising the lineart because it's so difficult! Still working on just the lines even now!

ahh, the joker. he'd be a fun guy to have at a party, hahah!
anyways, i really like the pose in this piece, foreshortening is tough, but you pull it off quite well. Props to you friend. his smile is very tim burton-esque.
creepy, to say the least.
i must say his hair looks FABULOUS. hahaha! didn't realize joker was an Elvis fan. but now that i think back to the cartoon one, he did have hair like that, cept darker i believe..right?
i like that you mixed and matched elements from ledger and the cartoon joker to make your own..they work well together. I think i would've liked to see the uncolored scanned lineart. but oh well, i just like seeing the process.
his posture seems just a tad bit stiff, and something is off about the thumb, i know that was probably the hardest part, the hand, but it looks like someone squished his thumb (probably did it himself, haha!)
anyways homes..this has gone on long enough, i'm looking forward to more!

Thanks man! I think the thumb is a bit off after all, I may fix that at a later time...Too lazy to do so at the moment and working on something epic right now! What I really wanna focus on is coloring properly...What program do you use again?

Oh!!! and btw, I did the line art specifically for you! I remember way back when you wanted to see cleaner lines, so I cleaned it up nicely for the first time haha
