Hey guys! Back with that Samus piece I promised a couple of days ago! The speed painting turned to a more refined piece and I'm very proud of it!Anyway, for the record, I KNOW she looks completely OUT OF PROPORTION LOL. That's just the exaggerated style I went for.
I drew the line art for this in 2003...Such a long time ago! The piece was drawn out of a Nintendo Power magazine where there was a Samus comic done for Metroid Prime or something...
So yeh.
Done traditionally with pencil, scanned in and colored in photoshop.
Samus is owned by Nintendo.

Thanks! I think the older version was a bit too "flat" looking...I wanted to add some depth to the overall image and I think this one works better.

Thanks mate! Yeah, the hair I tried out new by having a darker outline color than the actual inside color of the hair. I still think it needs some tweaking, as I always have problems with the way I draw my hair lol...Maybe I'll go back into it at some point in the future!

well, if you don't mind my input, maybe think of it less like a mass with definite shape, and don't do an outline, instead try drawing individual strands and locks. see how that works for you. always welcome man.

Yeah, I tried that. It doesn't look bad, but it gets kinda wierd when you have a whole body that looks flat with an outline and then something that's undefined with out an outline. It didn't look bad when I tried it and what you say makes a lot of sense. Also, against the background without the outline makes it look wierd...Idk man, I guess I'm going to have to keep playing around with it till I get something to work. I'll try it out now!

you know better than me how it'll look when you do it digitally. i wouldn't really know how that'd turn out against the background you have..hmm. go for it though

Sweet dood! And yeah, the proportion is way off, maybe you might consider someday going back and fixing it up with the proportions. It still looks really cool, man.

Thank you brother! Despite the extremely off proportions, I really dig the exaggerated style. Originally the face was a little bigger in the first line art and I made that one smaller. In fact, I probably could have fixed the proportions redrawing it in Photoshop but this was a different adventure of drawing/coloring and I decided to go with it. Besides, she can still be "normal proportioned" inside...I can just imagine the suit is like a bigger sized mecha she's controlling to look bigger and badder to her enemies LOL. Kinda like this one:
