Description
So the big reveal about what the shields are. They are an explanation for why Kanto only has about 150 Pokemon in the region, even with Johto right next door. You would think the trainers at least would bring over a Marill or something when traveling, but nope. And if you actually play FireRed or LeafGreen and raise a Golbat or Eevee to maximum happiness, they'll try to evolve into a Crobat, Espeon, or Umbreon only to stop in the process, unable to complete it. Until after the Elite Four (which is when you get the National Pokedex), you are limited to the original 150. So here's an in-universe explanation for that fact. Plus, I came up with an explanation for the Nuzlocke rule of "Only catch the first Pokemon you encounter in an area." Both things tie into the Elite Four trying to hinder any potential challengers so they remain completely in power.

Oh wow, that's a really cool explanation for why Iggy can't be a Crobat and why there are no Johto pokemon anywhere. Leaf's got quite the challenge ahead of her.

Yep. That's why you can't get a Crobat, a Pichu, or any of the other newer Pokemon until after the Elite Four. And I definitely enjoyed the idea of those poor flying Pokemon. Migration is probably a nightmare for the later Pokemon species.
