Transfigurator Ormiel turned away from Vivian. "Do you think you know pain? Child."
Vivian wanted to step back, maybe to run away but her legs would not obey her. Above them, the statutes leered as tortured flesh wound around them to the white marble columns.
Ormiel continued. "What you think is pain is fleeting. A squeak from a tiny mouse crushed by a large trap. Now imagine a million, no, a billion mice killed at the same time, their last squeaks reverberating through Creation. That is just the merest glimpse of Pain that is coming for this world. S'lianhiel the Herald is coming soon. Do you know what will happen? Child."
Vivian focused her will and managed to break the binding spell on her legs. A red flash lit up the area around her feet. It was a quick decision to escape instead of battling Ormiel. The White Council had to be warned! She focused again and wove the ambient light into an illusion of herself. Then she did a Travel spell to leave this accursed place where stone and flesh were becoming one.
Ormiel turned around. He sensed Vivian's magic, but he didn't care. "Pain without release is coming for all. Animate and inanimate shall suffer. Flee child, though no where is safe when the Herald comes!"
Who knows maybe I will spin a whole story out of this.
