I really enjoy the wet markets here, although I must admit that I feel more comfortable buying meats from the grocer's.

It's a very nice town. I've only been there a few times, but I really like the old market. I live up north in Taipei.

Check my blog ([link] ) on Tuesday. There will be a new article on Dasi with some history and a lot of photos.

I went to the old market quite often with my grandma when I was a kid.^^ I'll be sure to check out your blog.
It does't seem like you're a Taiwanese, are you?

No, I'm not. I'm from near Los Angeles, but I've been living in Taiwan for 11 years.

I can speak Chinese okay, but read/write horribly. Whenever I visit my family they force me to take them to a Chinese restaurant and order for them. Most of the time its a Cantonese restaurant

Thanks for the kind words about my blog.

No problem!^^

You mean Cantonese restaurants in L.A? That's interesting. But in the restaurant, they don't always speak Chinese or Cantonese, right?

I'll keep following your blog.(: Good luck on the upcoming interviews!

Most Chinese in the US speak Cantonese. It's easier to immigrate from HK and Singapore then from the PRC. Plus, illegal Chinese immigrants learn to speak Cantonese to better 'blend in'. Only Taiwanese immigrants really speak Mandarin commonly.

Of course they speak English in the restaurants, but my friends and family think it's funny to make me speak Chinese.

Sorry I don't know much about the immigrants..^^"
Thanks a lot for explaining to me and answering my strange questions.(:
Hope one day I could visit L.A!

No worries. Remember: there are no stupid questions. People would get along so much better if they asked instead of assumed.

The article is up now at [link] Let me know what you think and pass it around if you can.
