In the post-war Atomic Age of the 1950s, countries were working to find the next great power source to weaponize. And the United Kingdom was no exception.

One scientist, using research from the recently deceased Nikola Tesla, believed electricty...not nuclear power...was the key to winning the arms race. Unfortunately, rushed into testing by a hasty government, the weapon failed spectacularly. And caught in the explosion was Margaret Murphy.

But instead of being turned into dust, her body absorbed the energy...turning her into a living battery.

Thrilled with creating a superpowered beauty who would be the UK's weapon in the Cold War and a pretty face for their propaganda machine, she was given a costume inspired heavily by the Union Jack flag. And, for a short time, she was everything they wanted her to be. Until the Protectorate (formerly Royal Protectorate) was able to educate and help Margaret understand the nefarious undercurrent of what was happening. Eschewing the red and blue for green, orange, and white of her native Ireland, she adopted a name more fitting for her new role as an independent superheroine with the goal of helping all who were in need...she was Maggie Marvel!

A little bit of inspiration hit while playing around and a concept for the "first" of Melinda's mighty family. Hailing from Ireland, she would later move to the States and her granddaughter Melinda would take up her mantle. Nothing official of couse.
