Notes: Covered in a sea of liquid sand, dotted with countless obsidian islands and only a few significant landmasses comprised of solid ground, the world of Lexan 4 is among the most inhospitable regions in the Andromeda Galaxy. Mole-like creatures the size of small whales swim through the sand seas as easily as fish do water, devouring anything that comes close to them, and bipedal, ravenous locust-like creatures around the size of a grown man soaring through the sky in hordes of thousands dwell on this backwater planet. One would never expect sapient life to develop here, and yet, against all odds, the glyconians emerged. Evolving on the largest solid landmass, Rhynchi, they managed to do quite well for themselves considering the environment. Through crafting metal boats, they were able to traverse the vast sand sea, establishing colonies on many of the obsidian islands. However, their travels often brought them into conflict with the locust-like creatures, who they dubbed the Dark Cloud. Throughout generations, they developed many ways to combat the horde, and yet their numbers kept on growing. At one point, their numbers had grown so massive that they threatened to drive the glyconians to extinction. That all changed when the kett arrived. When the aliens first arrived on Lexan 4, the Dark Cloud wasted no time in attacking them. However, their superior technology made quick work of the insects, cutting their population in half in a matter of days. At first, the glyconians were thrilled, believing the kett to be their gods descending from on high to deliver them from the Dark Cloud. However, that hope was soon dashed when the kett began capturing them and taking them up into their vessels. The glyconians did their best to resist, but it was to no avail. The kett saw no use in subjecting them to the exaltation, so they simply made them a vassal race, taking many of them from their home world, leaving the barren planet practically uninhabited. Those unlucky enough to be left behind were far too few in number to maintain their settlements and quickly died out.
Character Notes: One of the many glyconians captured by the kett, Abono mostly served as a mechanic, maintaining kett machinery and the like. Back on Lexan 4, he was little more than a petty thief, often swiping parts and tools in order to build his own custom vehicles. Given his past, he was quite good at his new job, and he did take some pride in it, but it was hardly a substitute for freedom. Though he would often curse the kett under his breath, he never voiced his discontentment with them aloud, not that it would make a difference, seeing as none viewed him or his race as a credible threat. This menial existence would come to a close when the Roekaar attacked their settlement. Many of the kett and their vassals were massacred in the surprise attack, with Abono only surviving through sheer luck. After the dust had cleared, he barely managed to survive by hiding out in the caverns, only coming out to occasionally steal from the Roekaar right under their noses. With the kett on the planet wiped out, he had no choice but to either remain in hiding for the rest of his life, stealing whatever scraps he could, or try and escape on one of the Roekaar vessels. Neither task would be easy, but fate was about to deal him a good hand. When exploring one of the many caverns on the planet, he came across a recovering vantom, another vassal race of the kett. At first, the vantom, named Lee, attempted to eat him, but Abono was able to convince the blind, ravenous creature that they’d need each other in order to finally escape this planet, seeing as Lee, being blind, would be incapable of piloting a vessel by himself. Lee was eventually convinced, and the two barely managed to steal a vessel from the Roekaar and, at long last, leave the planet behind for good. Eventually, the two of them reached a planet inhabited by angarans. Unlike the Roekaar, they were a far more welcoming, if not strange, folk, allowing them refuge on their world. Lee was content to be away from the war, and was happy to settle down, but Abono wasn’t as satisfied. Old habits die hard, and Abono was a clear example of this, engaging in petty theft and, eventually, full on armed robbery. When the angarans found out, they hunted the glyconian back to Lee’s house. Lee, who was unaware of the situation, simply sensed angarans with weapons coming their way, and believed that they’d been betrayed. It wasn’t until after he’d already killed several when he realized what had actually happened. Enraged at Abono, yet unwilling to kill the only person who could possibly help him escape this mess, the two held an angaran leader hostage and forced the others to hand over a ship and their goods. Against all odds, this plan worked, and they were able to escape the planet with much wealth in tow, though not without taking some serious damage. Though Lee was still angry at his glyconian companion, he couldn’t help but be enthralled by all that they’d managed to steal. Seeing an opportunity, Abono managed to convince him of all they could accomplish as thieves working together. It took a few days of convincing and wearing down Lee’s already faltering conscience, but the two eventually came to an agreement. Thus, the Ferenc Pirates were born. Over the years, the two pulled off many great heists, gained a vast crew, consisting of several large ships, and built up a vast fortune. With Abono as the navigator and second-in-command, the Ferenc pirates became known across the Andromeda Galaxy, striking fear in all that dared cross their path.
