University Life Ch. 2

          I wake up the next morning by the sound of an extremely loud tuba player on my floor. As I get off the floor from the startling sound, I groggily waddle to the bathroom to start my day. Once I get dressed, I notice a note on my front door. I yank it from the tape and read that I should be getting a new roommate. Although I’m usually chipper of new people, I’m not prepared for someone new this early in the morning. Luckily, it was around noon when my door was knocked on. I get up and go to the door, finally prepared to introduce myself to this new person. Hopefully it isn’t a super cheery person, or “dark-as-Shadow” Goth.

                At the door is a human girl…. This place accepts humans here? I didn’t even realize that. I step aside to let her in, and she finds her own bunk, and sits on her bed, unpacking. I close the door, throw on the best smile I can, and walk over to greet her. As I open my mouth to say something, she raises an index finger as she continues to dig in her bags. She pulls out a DS and then looks up.

                                “Hello….I’m Kezzie. It’s nice to meet you. I like to read, sketch, and occasionally game on my DS.”

                                “Hey Kezzie…The name’s Leonard. I’m mostly the same way….Just more gaming and sketching than reading.”

                Kezzie chuckles at that and begins to play something. Did she find that just that amusing? Or she laughing at me? I truly stopped caring at least a minute ago. I hand her a spare copy of the dorm’s key, then leave to go find that annoying tuba player and find a way for them to play that stupid thing without lips. Instead, I bump into a short dog girl and make her drop her books. I quickly apologize, then fumble to help pick up her books. Once I grab them and look at her, I freeze mid-motion, feeling my face heat up. She’s maybe just under five feet tall, clearly a Furfrou, wearing a striped shirt that stops just above her belly button and light blue pants, accompanied with navy blue vans. ‘I feel like an idiot just holding her books and not saying or doing anything! Crap! Hand them to her!’ my brain is yelling at me to do something. I hand her the books and apologize again.

                                “I-It’s okay…I’m Judy Furfrou. Nice to meet you.” She extends a hand for me to shake, which I do quickly like an idiot. She giggles and moves the hair on her face, letting me see a fraction of her orange eye color. She moves the hair back then walks away, swaying her hips and tail. Now here I am, dumbstruck in the middle of the hallway. Forget it, I’ll look for “Tuba man” tomorrow. I return to my dorm and see that Kezzie had completely unpacked and piled a ton of books on the floor next to her bunk.

                                “Guessing you saw that Furfrou girl? Many guys are falling head-over-heels for her.” Kezzie commented without looking up from her book. I huff and nod, walking ashamed to the bathroom to change. I splash water on my face first, then get into my pajama pants and old art shirt. I plop down on my bunk and stare off into space, thinking of Judy. I don’t know why I was so awestruck from just seeing her! I’m not like that! But there was something that caught my attention and I just realized! She had a faint scent of fresh paint, and she reminds me of an old sweetheart I remembered from 2nd grade. There’s no way it was her…maybe…oh man. I jump up and tell Kezzie this story and she manages to explain that my brain sees Judy as my old 2nd grade crush. I hug her joyfully then flop onto my bed. Ha! I’m going to beat this silly “2nd grade crush” thing by tomorrow! I stay up with Kezzie until about 11pm playing a bunch of DS games together, then falling asleep. Before I sleep, I look at an old picture of me in 2nd grade. Surprisingly, there is only one face blurred out…. a young dog girl hugging me….aww man!
