A fair while later, on the hills far from the city, within an unusually colorful castle manor...
“Madame?”
“Yes, Chester?”
“I have seen to it that refreshments are ready for the guest to enjoy upon their arrival.”
“Excellent. Have you instructed the handymen to come in and cover the veranda in white tarpaulin, both from inside and outside as well?”
“That too I did. But I wonder Madame, I was under the impression that we initially were to retool that old heap of glass into a tea lounge, so what could this tarpaulin business could possibly be all about?”
“Old heap of glass? Ugh...Chester, I ought to remind you that you are speaking ill of the same heap of glass within which I staged and directed my very first fashion show at age thirteen starring my cousins from Father's side of the family, all of whom happen to be my juniors of anywhere from one to five years!”
“My apologies Madame, I did not intend to undermine the sentimental value that area holds to you...”
“You are forgiven. But, where were we at again? Right, covering up the veranda...”
“But I am still at a loss as to what purpose would that serve.”
“The answer, Chester, is as simple as it gets: To help my guest with her job.”
“Oh?”
“You see, my guest is in fact hired assistance pertaining to a pet project of mine that I intend to later this week pitch to those haggard facsimilia of Human beings over at the oh-so-mighty Board of Directors!”
“Very interesting indeed, Madame. And in what capacity could said guest help with that?”
“As a photographer. I trust that she is to bring her own equipment along should ours prove unfit for purpose somehow, though I personally would be quite surprised to see that eventuality come to pass considering that I recently approved a five percent increase in this year's multimedia solutions budget.”
“True. It is my hope that it all goes according to your vision.”
“So it is mine Chester, so it is mine. Depending on the quality of her work today I might hire her again in the future and if she proves herself capable enough, a full-time contract could even be put on the negotiating table as it were!”
“Again, I do look forward to it all going onwards and upwards from here. By the way Madame and with my apologies in advance for my nosiness, what precisely does that pet project look like?”
“Glad to hear you asking Chester. But I'm afraid you will have to wait and see it for yourself as those presentation photographs are being taken.”
“I take it that it is an event of the greatest importance to you, Madame!”
“It is of such importance to many, many more people outside of these walls. You will understand in due course.”
A brief bit of static makes itself heard from inside the butler's suit, followed up by grainy chatter: “Chester please come in, we have visitors. White male and Asian female in a van, they are asking about where to find one Aether Glow Estate they got called to work in, over!”. He then reaches into his pocket to produce a PTT device through which he promptly utters: “Security I copy. Yes they are indeed expected to help around with some things, open the gates and tell them to wait for me to show them inside, over!”
"Roger that, security over and out!"
Priscilla further instructs: “You go and bring them here Chester, and remember to extend our collective apologies their way for our security protocols!”
“Very well, Madame!”
As soon as the old wooden door closes behind Chester his sophisticated if rather eccentric, wheelchair-carried and clubfooted employer is left alone to take a lengthy drag off her cigarette before proceeding to gaze into the distance and vent out to herself her annoyance with the not-so-warm welcome her visitors were met with.
“Putain de MERDE, how many times am I to remind those palookas that my need for their protection does not entitle them to act like we are in the middle of an active warzone! But again, I should know better than to take these times of peace for granted...”
She then takes another drag and pensively stares into the horizon some more...
