you should at least know ep.25 (Anime) or Vol. 7(Manga) of the Deathnote series.
i'm just very careful, because this fact has accidentally been spoiled for me before and i don't want the same thing happen to you...

ok, so you have been warned...
the idea of drawing L as an angel developed when i recently watched episode 25 of the anime where he passes away...somehow trying to deal with my favourite character being dead, i guess
it was a bit shocking although i already knew it since everything happened very fast and it also means a twist for the whole story...
