Description  NEW VERSION HERE  !!
I think I have a Tokyo Ghoul:re obsession

!WARNING, SPOILERS AHEAD!

It seems to me that Haise is not a completely new personality; he's just what Kaneki would be like if he'd never become a ghoul/been tortured/gone through all that shit.
So it's like he locked his memories away but they're all still there, lingering in the back of his mind. They're a grasp away and that's why Haise is able to remember some of Kaneki's memories (like "Nishio senpai"). After all, Kaneki has created other personalities to keep his sanity before (Rize).

You should read :re! It's pretty good, albeit a bit confusing To give you an idea, personally, in order to keep track of everything that's going on in :re, I have a veeeery long doc with the names and history of every character, a short summary of every chapter and all the important info scattered throughout the manga (all in my own words of course)

Oh man, you did a really nice job with this!! the expression and emotion are really visceral and expressive. I'm actually going to disagree with that other comment a bit -- i really like the slightly sketchy lineart, I don't think it takes away from the image at all, it's clear and it looks purposeful rather than messy, and i think it actually adds to the emotion. Same with the hair, i like the painted quality of it. the shading is also very nice!

the thing that is most distracting to me actually is the placement of the text. it's a little unintuitive to follow, with the way it zigzags across, i had to stop and check to make sure I was following it correctly, instead of just smoothly reading it without having to think about it. Placing the words a little closer to the center horitzontally while spacing them out a bit more vertically I think will make it easier to follow the words down the image. I also think the background is a but muddy, and has too many midtones? if it had either more lights or more darks, with the figures contrasting -- either light figures on a dark background, or dark figures on a light background -- i think that would help them not compete with it so much. Backgrounds are definitely a pain when it comes to finding the right balance of interesting, but not distracting. :') (this is a nice explanation of environments vs backgrounds that is def a good thing to think about. and this one , while not really relevant to this image, is also super helpful and has some good points. Oh, and a good one on composition too, for good measure, that might help you decide on placement next time when it comes to things like the text and leading lines.

I appreciate your honest feedback a lot!
The lines are indeed sketchy on purpose but at first I intended to make them really neat but as I was defining the initial sketch more and more I began to like it and didn't want to draw clean line art over it and erase it
You are most likely right about the text. It's a little too much. I'm not used to adding text to my drawing but I really felt like I needed to add text to this one for it to be complete. I guess I just did it the wrong way then. I should have indeed trying to place everything near the center.
Yes, I used SO many colors for the background! I think I just really wanted it to look like blood and it ended up looking like a real mess. But I think it kind of adds to the feeling of confusion and being overwhelmed. I should have definitely made it darker though!

Thank you so much for the tutorial! I always enjoy reading the good ones but they're hard to find

(wow this reply is so late, sorry bout that haha)
yEAH finding good tutorials is rough!! i try to link some good ones whenever i can, esp when i feel like i'm not explaining something well, haha. and i've got a decent backlog i've collected, so might as well share! there's usually at least some small thing to be learned. even if it's not what the tutorial intended, or is a kind of what-not-to-do sitation :') but tutorials have helped me out tons in the past.
haha stuff gets away from me all the time and i end up wishing i'd just stopped earlier, so i totally sympathize. i def need to get better at having a stronger gameplan going into something, and then sticking with it TuT we can do it!!

I agree with everything you've said! I too have the bad habit of not stopping when I should (as in, I keep adding unnecessary details that only weigh down the final work) And yes, a stronger gameplan is a must! Although you seem to be much better at composition than I am

i get so focused when i start and completely lose track of my initial plan a LOT of the time, ahaha... part of that is that i don't draw very strong thumbnails and sort of try to re-work it as i go (extra effort!! and usually not successful, lol) but gesture drawing and thumbnailing scenery photos help a lot with that. (i should go do some of those, actually, i haven't in a while....) BUT YEAH quick, simple things with a strong impact are so difficult.

Yes! Planning ahead is the key! BTW, I took into account your comments (and those of the other commenters) and redrew this piece I tried to keep it simply and not make it muddy and confusing again ^^ Check it out --> fav.me/d9fbx4p

Thank you I liked the colors too but they were kinda distracting so in the new one, instead of coloring the background, I slightly coloured the head (I mean that sunset cloud effect, which was done by accident BTW) and the centipede in various -discreet- shades of red and orange

Hello! I'm here for ProjectComment !
This fanart is amazing! I really like it, your anatomy is very good and the two faces are just so expressive! You did really a nice job ^^
I want to suggest you to try using a less sketchy lineart, try to make lines cleaner, it would really improve the impact your art has on the viewer! Also, this might be a matter of taste, but I think you should draw the outline on the hair as well, instead of just painting them, I think it doesn't go too well with your thick lineart, at least in my opinion!
Another thing is that I think the colors of the background are too many and too muddy, you should have tried just using a bright blood red and black or white, I think it would have made a cleaner effect ^^

Thank you very much! I appreciate your honesty
Now, to address your points:
the lineart is actually sketchy on purpose because I wanted this to look a little messy but I respect your opinion
I think you are right about the hair! I should have outlines them because the faces are outlines and so the hair looks kinda out of place! I wasn't sure what was wrong until I read this so thanks
I suck at making backgrounds because I mostly draw traditional art and don't add any background at all. I'm not used to this and I wanted the drawing to look scary and bloody so I guess I went overboard! Thanks for the suggestions!~
