Description Alto Sax on a Leather Chair !
(how's that for an imaginative title)

Coloured pencil.
(with charcoal for the black on the right.)

This one took forever .. mainly because I slowed right down and then stopped for 3 months. But once I got back into it, things went pretty quickly.

Very Impressive....Great detail, there is tons of intricate mechanisms on a saxophone! Most people NOT familiar with a sax, mess it up bigtime. It looks like you are familiar with the instrument. By the looks of the keyguards, I would say this is a YAMAHA model.

Nice collection - partial to Selmers I see - that bari must have cost a small fortune !
I'm assuming the curvie is a yanigisawa .. I barely play my sop (yani 880 straight).
I'm a late bloomer (been at it three years) and I'm trying desperately to catch up !!
Do you have any tunes online ?

pat-mcmichael In reply to Brendan65 [2011-09-23 15:06:03 +0000 UTC]

Nah, I dont have anything posted online! Actually, The best sax in the bunch is the Yamaha Tenor (center). It is the closest thing I ever played to the sound and feel of a MarkVI. I would trade them ALL for a good MarkVI tenor

as an alto player, I love the detail, but it bugs me that the reed is touching the chair, it's great though

Thanks for the fave .. though it's tenor for me !

Really good work Brendan!Details are great here, especially the leather chair. What's the size? A3?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Brendan65 In reply to ibetufold [2009-07-16 16:20:32 +0000 UTC]

It's an odd size .. around 12x16 inches, I think. I can't check because it's hanging on the wall at my sax teacher's "studio" !

Nice one, Bud...
but it seems that the chair is getting more attention than the sax.

Yeah .. that's typical - and the sax took ten times as long to draw !!

MattDeakinFineArt [2009-05-23 07:13:06 +0000 UTC]

Excellent. I particularly like the leather chair. It looks so damn real, especially with the inclusion of all the little cracks and imperfections of the leather.

I really like the sax too but something about it doesn't seem right but I'm not sure what. I think it may be that because it's polished/shiny metal that it doesn't seem polished/shiny enough somehow . Oh I don't know, I'm just nit-picking.

Great job overall and great to see it finally finished.

Brendan65 In reply to MattDeakinFineArt [2009-05-23 14:03:57 +0000 UTC]

Yeah - it was hard to get enough colour down on the paper when drawing the tiny detailed parts and stay accurate.
How do you layer a bunch of different coloured match head sized parts that are all jammed together ..
Maybe I'll just buff that sax some more !
