Description This was shot by my friend Max. We went looking to get some night highway shots, was letting him use this D1x I have here (not actually mine though) because he doesnt have a camera at the moment. He doesnt know too much about photography and cant really afford to get into it right now. Decided to post this for him here to get some feedback and possibly encourage him to become more interested in photography as I think he has a good eye.

This shot was actually an accident, I myself am not even sure how this effect is created (lines from moving the camera while everything else is still in focus). He was trying for the normal motion blur you typically see with moving cars at night. So if anyone knows how this is done, please let me know. I've seen this done before with various shots but never understood exactly how you move the camera and still get things in focus.

So let Max know what you think of his shot. I think it turned out pretty cool. Hopefully he and I will do some more crazy stopping-on-the-highway shots.

This was taken on 35W in Minneapolis just before the downtown/94 exists. You can actually see part of the Franklin Ave bridge at the top of the frame.

really awesome effect. I agree that it's probably a mostly still shot with movement at the end or beginning. Have you ever, on a tripod, taken a long exposure and zoomed during the shot? It will give you something different but similar. It's a wicked cool effect too. That's what this makes me think of.
Anyway this captured movement and light is really wonderful here. I love this.

I think it's because the camera was still for most of the photo, and only moved towards the end (or theoretically, the start, I suppose )

thats kinda what I figured too. I wonder if there is some kind of rule to it though, some kind of rule of thumb or something. Guess I will just have to experiment and see what I can come up with.
