Description Some costume concept sketches for my technical theatre class. I decided to set Faust in 16th century Spain - approximately during the time of the Inquisition and New World exploration and various interactions with the Muslim world. The exploration and paranoia of that era in Spain seemed to resonate with the ideas in Faust, the thought that an ambition for knowledge could lead you to hell.

From left to right, the designs are for Envy, Faust himself, Mephistophiles, and Covetousness.

Most excellent! I like the color contrast between Faust and the others--symbolic as well as practical. And Mephistopheles's costume just kicks all manner of ass.
