Description Alesha wandered through the woods around her eastern Tenari village, collecting wild berries to share with her family. She looked forward to getting home and baking some into a loaf of bread. Bread was always much nicer with berries in it.

Today Alesha was a bit deeper into the woods than she normally went where the trees grow thickly together and it was dark beneath the leaves. But Alesha was a big girl. She was fourteen and to be married in three weeks! She was not afraid of dark forests...

Suddenly from between the trunks and scrub there loomed the sad remains of an old building. Once it must have been a formidable little cottage but now all that remained were a few crumbling walls and piles of stones.

Curious, Alesha pushed her way through the bushes to the ruin. Grass and flowers grew thick between the worn stones. The place was somber and quiet, beautiful in a way. Alesha was in no hurry and decided to sit down on a low wall to enjoy the place.

Then an extraordinary phenomenon occurred. From a pile of rubble just a few feet from where Alesha sat there rose a silvery mist which quickly coalesced into the transparent form of a young girl in a tattered dress. A ghost!

"Finally, someone..." the ghost began.

"UAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!" Alesha screamed and recoiled backwards, dropping her basket. Berries spilled across the ground.

The ghost floated with its hands on its hips. "Oh come-on!" it sighed, "Shut up, stupid! I'm ONLY a ghost! You're frankly being ridiculous. Why's it that the first person to come along who can help me after all these years is a dumb twelve year old?"

Alesha pulled herself together. "I'm fourteen," she stated indignantly, "And I'm not dumb. I'm getting married in three weeks!"

"Sure..."

"Why're you here anyway? Aren't you dead?"

"Well I'm glad you noticed!" the ghost snorted, "Obviously there's a naggy little thing keeping me here. But you can help me sort it out."

"Oh, well what's that?" Alesha asked, crossing her arms. She was a little bit annoyed with the ghost's narky attitude.

"So, um..." The ghost started counting on her fingers. She got to ten, paused, then gave up. "Anyway, a long long time ago, I was killed by a bunch of nasty elves. But that's not the point. After I was killed, I got buried, just over there, with this nice golden necklace; a family heirloom supposed to keep me safe in the afterlife. HOWEVER, that very night, a group of adventurers dug me up and stole my necklace! Those monsters! I tried to stop them, but, well, I'm a ghost. All I could do was flap my arms at them." The ghost waved her arms in front of Alesha then hung her head.

"And I guess you want ME to go get this necklace?"

"Yes. Or I'll haunt you for the rest of your life." The ghost smiled smugly.

"But how'm I supposed to find this necklace? The people who stole it must be long dead. There haven't been any elf raids around here for hundreds of years, not since the Empire arrived!"

"Don't worry!" said the ghost, "I know where to look. One of them, this big bearded man, said to his friend they were going to Michena to buy a farm."

"Michena?! But that's on the other side of the country!"

"You know where it is?! You can lead the way!"

And so began the strangest chapter of young Alesha's life.

Next on Alesha's Unfortunate Adventure:

---

I got the idea for this drawing after fighting some wisps in a forest in Skyrim. There was a ruined building there and I thought it was a very beautiful spot (once I removed those nasty spirits). I also drew it mostly on the 22nd which coincides with the Inktober prompt 'ghost' although the prompt did not give me the idea for this. And I used a lot of pencil lead anyway but I ain't letting some silly rules get in the way of my art!

---

Anyway, prior to the unification of Tenar under Imperial rule, eastern Tenar was under constant threat of elvish attacks, both from the depraved Maakreni variety and from the ocean going variety who yearned for the old days before the years of woes that saw the collapse of their own empire.

Eastern Tenar is a rugged mountainous region covered in thick woodland. It contains an abundance of mineral wealth and coal and as such has always been a center of mining and industry. These traditions continue into the modern period and the eastern Tenari states hold most of the countries metal working industry. Logging is also prolific here too.

Nice drawing and cool story I like how casual the encounter with the ghost gets, well written

Thanks. People always seem to take the horror in horror stories too seriously.

Your welcome

and I agree, if it were anyone else's story it probably would have included descriptions of how the air felt ice cold and she was frozen with fear or something, which is silly because ghosts can't harm you anyway

is there going to be a follow up? because I kind of want to know what happens next

lol if I did that you'd be scrolling miles to get to the comments! But yeah, I guess things like DnD have popularised the idea that undead have to be evil and edgy. As if a troupe of zombies wouldn't make a killing (heh) head juggling for the circus.

I wasn't planing on a follow up but I might now cause I'm currently strapped for ideas. I kinda just threw the story together as I drew the picture. I suppose the two of them could have plenty of (mis)adventures on the way to Michena to find a necklace that probably isn't there anymore...

...and if they don't succeed in there quest, she doesn't seem like such a bad ghost to be haunted by
