Kitara- Female Pale Red fox done by
Kiba- Female Cherry Red fox done by

I like seeing the unique style of each artist in their mount!

**Note: I did not kill these foxes! They are soft mount taxidermy foxes. If you do not like taxidermy, that's fine- but if that's the case please be respectful and keep your comments to yourself. Thanks!**

I was thinking the same thing. I am very involved in the bone and taxidermy community but I only use animals that died naturally in my work. These foxes look like they suffered on a ranch before being killed for fur. Also, hunting for "population control" is not respectable either. It's basically human justification for killing either to keep predators off of their property or for killing only for fur.Β

Also, I see you are studying bio! I am in biological anthropology! We should chat sometime.

FYI all of these foxes were wild caught, not ranch raised Β

The cross is from Canada, the pale red from Montana, and the cherry red from Pennsylvania. Β I'm assuming you think they are ranch raised because of the differences in fur color/texture, but they are each naturally occurring variants, more common in the region from which each came. *THE MORE YOU KNOW*Β

And just because you don't agree with something doesn't necessarily mean it's not respectable Let's not forget to be nice now!

From the taxidermists who acquired the pelts and mounted them. Β They each obtain pelts from various sources- some wild caught, some ranched. Β Each one of these pelts was originally from a wild caught fox from the origins I mentioned in the previous comment. Β I like knowing where my animals came from

And I wasn't being sarcastic- Β just being real Β

Suspiciously snarky comment seems suspiciously snarky... but I'll respond to it anyway, just in case you genuinely are curious

To my knowledge, they were all taken by hunters or trappers for population control in their respective places of origin.Β

I was genuinely curious, thanks. But how can you stand not having a sure knowledge of how they were killed?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Brillyent-Blondie In reply to Raciepie [2013-08-10 03:41:41 +0000 UTC]

Honestly, they would have died anyway; death is part of the natural cycle of life.Β  I have no doubts that the hunters who took them took them in the most quick, efficient, and humane manner possible.Β

Raciepie In reply to Brillyent-Blondie [2013-08-11 11:22:05 +0000 UTC]

I really hope so I don't like the idea of an animal suffering. :/ But humans would die too... so why is killing an animal fine but it's murder with us? I don't get the double standard

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Brillyent-Blondie In reply to Raciepie [2013-08-11 19:41:18 +0000 UTC]

I absolutely do not like the idea of animals suffering either, which is why I am glad they were taken quickly, without time to feel any suffering or pain. Honestly, it's the whole idea behind euthanasia with our pets- if they have a terminal and painful condition that will not improve, many people feel the most humane thing is to take the pet and be with him/her as his/her suffering is ended quietly, quickly, and painlessly.Β  That doesn't change the fact that it is an immensely painful process for the pet owner, but they do it out of love for their pet.

Even in the animal world, animals kill each other.Β  Wolves hunt caribou for food.Β  Male lions will kill a female's cubs in a pride if he wins a fight with the previous residing male.Β  Male deer and other large male horned ungulates can and do mortally wound each other in battle during the rut season- which often ends in a death that is slow and painful (bleeding out, bacterial infection, etc.) unless a predator comes along and puts the poor thing out of it's misery.Β  These are just a few examples.

My childhood cat was actually killed very ferociously by some neighborhood dogs that had escaped; they came onto our property and ripped him in half.Β  My mom heard the initial barking/hissing and was unfortunate enough to witness this happen, but it was too late by the time she got outside (and let me tell you, she got out there FAST).Β  I was really upset about this for a really long time, but in the end I found comfort in the fact that he went quickly, and therefor did not feel too much pain.Β  He was an older cat and he had had a long, beautiful life with us.Β  I wish his death could have been more peaceful, but I am glad that it was at least fast and not drawn out like some sort of painful malignant cancer.

As for your point on humans killing humans is considered murder, but humans killing animals is not, I suppose it has to do with man's history and tradition. Our ancestors hunted their own food, and in colder climates furbearing animals were hunted for their insulating coats.Β  Today, our society is very far removed from that- we have someone else slaughter and package our cows and pigs for us, we buy already made garments and blankets.Β  We work for our things today by having a job that gives us money so we can pay people to both prepare and stock these things for us- not by going out and getting them/preparing them ourselves.Β  Many people have lost connection to the outdoors, nature, and the natural cycle of life.Β  If you were stuck in some remote wilderness area in Alaska, your views on hunting might change- they'd have to if you wanted to survive

Oh I know!!! I absolutely love it, and feel so lucky to have 3 awesome foxes done by 3 amazing people each with their own style!! And yes, Katie's body work is fantastic- your foxes with her pose-ability is a beautiful sight to imagine Β  That's neat that you get to hang out with her!Β  I talked to her a little last week, and man she is SLAMMED with orders- that Oddities show was a big break for her

And yes, I would love to see that!!Β  Didn't she mount up a little ranched burgundy from you a while back that she got in a trade? Tiny thing, but came out beautifully!!Β  She would do some bomb-ass work with a big fluffed butt ranchie monster no doubt

I absolutely adore Kitara!!Β  Was so excited to get her home- Her coloration is my favorite of the 3, IT MATCHES MY HAIR And her tail is so LONG!!!Β  I was so shocked!Β  She is just beautiful though, curled up on a cushion on my couch with the other two enjoying the lazy life I think I will take some more pictures during my days off this week!

You're very welcome! Β  Aww, lol, thank you! Β  I'm really proud of how that one turned out; it was one of those mounts where everything just fell into place and it didn't fight me the entire way through like some mounts tend to do, lol!Β  I'm working on a real dandy of a premade, a fox color I've never had the pleasure of working on yet so I'm excited to see how it turns out! Β  Hopefully it'll be ready in a week or two.Β  I've damaged my eye though so that may cause me some setbacks.

No problem!! Now I am intrigued about this new fox color I'll have to keep an eye out for sure!!Β  If you ever end up putting an Alaskan silver pre-made up for sale though, I think I will have to buy that- would fit in perfectly to the collection of wild red fox variations from different places in North America!

Did you hurt your own eye or did one of the fox's eyes get damaged while mounting??Β  Hopefully the latter, wouldn't want you to be in any pain!

Β

I hurt my own eye; not sure what happened to it but it was so horribly sore and red as a beet! Β  I think I got something in it that irritated it. Β  But, it's all better now! (Yay!) Β
