Description
Although the Painted lady is very reminiscent to the Common tortoiseshell, the markings are quite different. The spots are slightly more erratic in number and size. Painted ladies feed on thistles as larvae and can be found on every continent apart from Antarctica and Australia.
I enjoyed creating the ink blotch patterns, these proved difficult to map but these work well with the contrasting orange and black colours and the green/fawn furry body of the insect.
