I really like the roughness and solidity of those feet (feet are the hardest IMHO!) but I have some reservations..."Don't Tread on Me", with the snake, comes from the Gadsden Flag and US Navy Jack which I'm sure you know. The snake is a relatively peaceful creature until provoked, when it will strike and kill. This poor snake has not only been tread on, but he's being stood on, and he's not showing anything but a calm demeanor. There is a lot of historical meaning behind the phrase "don't tread on me", but this is contradictory with it, and maybe you meant it intentionally, or maybe not.

Thank you Marianna for your comments on my Don't Tread .... I agree with all that you said about snakes, who like most of us just want to left alone and not endangered, but will strike to defend. My intent was that the snake model (a diamondback rattler) would show a pre-strike pose (but he just would not do that for me, something about too hard to maintain that pose for a long time, how little I was paying him, and other gripes). Seriously though, my intent has been to add a forked tongue licking his toe and a little fang exposure after firing the piece (as these parts are too delicate to fabricate out of clay). Again, thank you for taking the time to write and, in the future, I will give my abused snakes a meaner expression. Best, Barrie

Lol, uh-oh I hope the snake models have not unionized! I hope I didn't sound like I was picking, I understand the medium is hard to work with for anything that delicate (I tried to make some too-thin sculptures in my ceramics class, with less than successful results).

I wondered what you were up to. This is cool BB!!!! I don't believe I would care for a snake curling up at my feet though. What's the story glory????
