I’m blasting my way through commissions and the next one on the list is another piece of chapter art for ’s “A New Dawn” crossover story. Chapter 17 is up to on the mound this time around and you can all read up on that with this convenient and shameless link.

Metal Sonic constantly referred to as a “Monster” in this story and he certainly looks the part here. He is downright menacing as he holds poor little Twilight Sparkle in his cold clutches. Luna on the other hand is a picture of resolve. She “holds” in her possession the object which the Metal Demon covets and is faced with the difficult situation of losing one, or two, truly priceless commodities. As they would say in any western move, it looks like we have ourselves an old fashioned Mexican standoff.

This was a real character driven chapter, literally digging into the psyche of some of its inhabitants, so I really wanted to have that reflected in this image. The characters take up a ridiculous amount of real estate and background is blurred and muddled to bring focus forward.

Add in an extra lick of paint in the form of special fx and you get a pretty sweet image. Good tension, strong interaction between participants and an interesting setup all combine nicely.
