Description *EDIT* I decided to just fix the description.

Here is my first submission to DeviantART; just some Vietnam-style AR-15's i did in Pimp my gun.

First on the list is a Colt Model 601, the original AR-15 (I mean the REAL original) used during project agile, the earliest days of US involvement in Vietnam. The defining characteristics are the green-ish furniture instead of the black plastic, three-pronged "Duckbill" Flash hider, no forward assist, and other small mechanical parts.

Second is the Model 605, the first attempt at a carbine AR. the only difference is a shorter barrel than the standard AR, at about 15-17in. rather than the M16's 20in.

Third is the Model 603, also designated the XM16E1. this gun saw the bulk of action in Vietnam, and was the first to begin improving the design from the original. New additions included a Forward assist, a button on the right-hand side of the weapon that closed the bolt if it failed to lock all the way. A partial Magazine fence was added to keep troops from accidentally dropping the mag in battle, and finally chrome-lined chamber and bolt. The chrome bolt was later discarded on the -A1.

Finally, we have a Late war Model 603, the M16A1. Differences include a full mag fence lower, 'birdcage' flash hider, and chrome-lined chambers (later chrome-lined bores, as well). This weapon saw the last five-six years of service in Vietnam, and it could be argued that it was the best (or maybe the most reliable?) of the 'Nam era AR's.

Enjoy!
