Description Kinda embarrassed to post this, but... oh well. I'm still new to 3D, don't expect perfect work.

This is the model for BeastEon game. The gryphon body design is theirs.
Models will appear as a small sprite on isometric maps.Β 
They are much faster for me to make and animate, than pain-stakingly drawing 2D sprites like these again.

(that was the first attempt. I tried to make this model and animation very similar to the sprites)

These markings are totally made up. I don't know what markings will be generated on gryphons yet.
And please excuse the mistakes (wing clipping through tail etc) - I'll be more careful with the next beast models.

I'd be happy to try that for you, but I'm not familiar with the file format that they use... I could only provide Blender and image files with the mesh/rig/texture and maybe a few animations (idle, walk, run, fly, idk what Second Life allows).

Then you'd have to ask someone else about the exporting, and getting it working on the game.

well overall I think it looks beautiful! if you get into rigging and such with your 3D modeling work you could make a great deal of money making avatars for SecondLife : DD

other than that I think talking toΒ Teager if you make an account would help~

Secondlife especially now that it has a new bone system for animation called "Bento" there is much much more customization within the game

i've always admired your work and I truely hope to see you spread your "wings" per say more into 3D stuff <3Β

Huh, so they don't use the bone/animation data sent with the model? You upload the model and then create bones and animations with their own system?

That sounds strange. If the model is made by person 1, do they have to upload and rig it? Or is the commissioner expected to rig and animate it?

From a quick search, it looks like you have to pay to upload things. I'm confused lol.

Oh wow, you did a great job! Don't be embarrassed at all. I went to school for animation and game design and I'm pretty sure this would get you top marks. There's at least one teacher I had that I know would kill to have you in his class. It's not just the modeling that's excellent, it's the skin you've painted and how amazingly the parts move together. Beautifully animated and textured!

Can I ask what program you used? I'm familiar with programs like Maya, ZBrush, and Sculptris. This is seriously awesome and I'm even more impressed since you're self taught! Doing great.

As someone who plays Beastkeeper, I look forward to BeastEon even more so now.

Sorry for late reply, been busy. ^^' How are things going for you lately?

Thanks for the comment. I use Sculptris for meshes and texture-painting, and Blender for rigging/animation. This is a good tutorial for rigging: cgi.tutsplus.com/tutorials/bui…
Ignore the IK thing if you want, and obviously if you're rigging a non-human then some of the steps like fingers are redundant. Instead you'll have to find creative ways to handle wings and stuff. I could send you some screenshots/blender files if you want to copy or mess around with rigs? Though things quickly get spiky and ugly if bent too much. No Pixar quality here, lol.

And yay, I'm not actually familiar with BeastKeeper myself, so everything about BeastEon is new to me. Should join though, it looks interesting. What's your username there?

Hmm. I haven't used Blender. But I see it's free to use. So I'll have to download it soon and mess around with it. I've been messing around with Sculptris and learning more about 3D modeling. Had to drop out of school just as I was starting the 3D courses so I've only got the basics. lol. Might take you up on the offer to examine some files. Always helps learning to look at someone elses stuff. At least for me it does. Thanks!

O 3D animation don't see lot around if looking in DA or YouTube. small critique the back feet would go past the front if you look at a real quad running like that and also feet are not so mirrored but looks nice and smooth

I only noticed the messy wing feathers, but otherwise I love this model. I'm sure any future ones you make will improve exponentially, as this is an excellent model and animation for a new medium.

The clipping, the jagged wing feathers, the chest being stretched between forelegs, the wonky bending tail... those are the issues I was talking about. x) But at least they are identified, so can be avoided in future. Hopefully.

This is great for being new to 3D. I didn't notice any clipping.Β I agree that 3D models are a lot faster to animate than 2D sprites. It's making the models that takes a lot of time.

The running animation is nearly spot-on. I just think the one frame where all four feet are on the ground doesn't feel quite natural for me. It may help to get an image sequence of a lion running. I think I saw one in Edward Muybridge's photography collection.

Thank you. Little mistakes don't really matter for these models, as they'll be tiny sprites in-game. Still good practice to avoid them though.

You're right, the running animation is a little off. I haven't figured out exactly how to position legs and bend feet to jump naturally... some of the other beasts are like lions and wolves, so I'll need to get those right. Will look for that lion reference, thanks!

Modelling and texturing in Sculptris. Rigging, animating, texture-adjusting and rendering is done in Blender.
