Description Hello papercrafters!
Now we show the finish of this [:IRONMAN:] Mark VII designed by Julius Perdana from Paper-Replika  .
You can build your own Iron man:
Mark VII Part 1
Mark VII Part 2
Mark VII Part 3

We finished this model in April 2013 (WOW a year ago!)
The model is about 22 cm due to the size reduction we did, is fully articulated and illuminated with LED lights and improved in the joints.
This is built mostly with cardboard and hardened with fiberglass resin, sanded, polished, painted and varnished by hand .

Your you missed any progress?  You can see it here step by step:

IRONMAN Mark VII WIP1: first assembly
IRONMAN Mark VII WIP2: Led testing
IRONMAN Mark VII WIP3: hardening and sculpting
IRONMAN Mark VII WIP4: painting in progress
IRONMAN Mark VII WIP5: Final mounting

Questions or comments will be welcomed!   We would like to know your opinion.

What I liked most?
The part, that Iron Man couldn't be destroyed ever!

No, seriously, I like Iron Man a lot and the whole concept of hardening simple papercrafted models.
I thought about it myself before, but was too lazy to try it out and to paint the model afterwards.

No need to be sorry, as you see, sometimes I'm so busy working, I'm also late for replies.

Hardening models was one of those things that happened by mistake . It was a model that had to repaint by hand (Bumblebee) and I had to recreate all the textures . Then, I realized that paper became rigid with paint and varnish. And I started experimenting by filling models and then eliminating paper unions and the technique was improved over time until the results of Ironman
It's very exciting to apply the entire procedure, but it is very slow , so I don't do very often .
I'm very glad you like the result

By accident happen the best parts!
You work with fibreglass and 2 components resin?
I found something like that for 1:1 armor, but haven't tried it out yet.
It's difficult to get the same components from the tutorial her in my country. Besides that there is so much to do... Someday....someday....

True!
Nope, I just used the resin. Is a premixed resin, only a few drops of catalyst is added to harden.
In fact any hardening resin can be useful . I even hardened paper with instant glue (cyanoacrylate)
But I'll not lie... it is certainly much work to do .

Much much work to do!

It would be perfect to harden the models with something transparent.

A little!

I use oil-based varnishes are used in crafts. The figure doesn't harden like rock but gives enough hardness.
I have matte finish, ultra bright and crystal.

Fantastic! The level of detail you manage to keep even with the painting and creating the textures is incredible. And the leds gave it an impressive look. Once again, congratulations on another badass model ^^

Thank you! (n_n')\  Actually helped a lot that the original model is so detailed. I Just add some relief to the armor stand out when painted. And the LEDs should never miss on a papercraft like this .

It has movements too? I thought the painting would make it hard to move...

BRSpidey In reply to LuisFerrari [2014-04-11 03:30:39 +0000 UTC]

haha, yes I could improve movement that has the original model  . So I need all the pieces quite hard. Paint and varnish helped to make the pieces could slide without any problem .
Actually this can be confused with an action figure  .

I get it, if they are too hard they won't move and if they are too soft they won't stay still after posed. It's basically they same principle as the Pokedex, but on that one it was quite simple, since the movement is very basic.

Yep, this paper has many many cylinders mechanisms that give great mobility, and have to be very precise to avoid getting stuck, this has very little margin for error .

But that's too much work, I never try to make a stop motion animation, there are many things to consider   ... oh wait   ... I already understood is a joke  , well thanks for the offer
