Prologue - Part 1

The ocean was calm and quiet. The cloudy blue sky reflected in its surface. The waves sloshed against the side of the sea-faring vessel as it plowed its way through the water. It was a rather large ship, but still small enough to be maned by no less than 7 ponies. However, 10 were aboard this ship. It was a sturdy ship of course, but it still was at the command of the wind and powerful waves. The salty scent of the water was heavy, and the air was humid. Captain Bluebird stood on deck observing ocean. Looking up at the sky, he could see the clouds begining to darken and that the sun had just reached its peak. Feeling the breeze pick up, he turned and yelled out to helmsman to turn to starboard. The ship gave a slight groan as its path began to shift.
He turned and made his way over to the crow's nest. He looked up the ladder to the top. Bluebird was an earth pony, so he spent a fair amount of time going up and down it, but Silver Orchid on the other hand was a pegasus, so she normally flew to the top with ease. Taking a hold of the ladder, he began to climb. After some time had passed, he finally reached the top.
Silver Orchid, a grey mare whose mane was a velvet pink and wore the yellow and blue vest that the entire crew had, was opposite the ladder and was peering off into the distance with her telescope. "Any sign of it yet," he asked. She gave a small jump, obviously taken by surprise. She glanced at him and replied, "not yet, but at this rate, it should be visible soon." Looking out in the direction that she held her telescope he gave a small sigh. "I only hope we can get out there before HE does." He said the word with a little bit of disgust. Crag was an evil unicorn pirate, his mane was jet black and his personality even darker. He roamed the seas hoping to find the ultimate treasure. In his time, he'd manged to sink several royal exploration ships of the Equestrian Marines. He had pillaged many small towns that were also to far out from the mainland to be safe from the oceans wrath. Bluebird had once been friends with him, but that was before he had decided to follow the corruption in his heart.
What Bluebird wanted to do most right now was get to the southern isle of the subcontinent named after the constellation Andromeda. He had a map that gave him his suspicions that the thing Crag has been searching for all these years was in some ancient temple that sank into the sea long ago. The map itself marked out a location where the temple might be able to be accessed from land. Bluebird wished to get this object, whatever it was, away from Crag's clutches. If he could obtain it, he had a good idea on where to seal it away back in Equestria.
Turning back to Silver Orchid, whom he had grown quite close to during recent exploration missions, he told her to keep a look out for Crag's ship and to warn them of any trouble should the weather take a turn for the worse. The sky had grown considerably darker and was preparing itself to let loose a heavy load. He called out from ontop the crow's nest to the other crew memebers that it was time to fold up the mast before the storm could tear away at it. Bluebird climbed back down and headed for his cabin.
Once safely inside his quarters, he pulled out the map and laid it across his desk and began to study it once more. He also pulled out a small book to help translate some of the writing along the edge of the aged parchment.
