Description The original, amazing linework was drawn by , in the unlikely trio piece. I had a lot of trouble making all the different parts blend together without bluring the lines, if anyone knows how to make a distinct edge without it being too sharp I'd love to know, and those are supposed to be clouds or mist in the background.

Wow! Thanks for the advice. The piece itself is fairly old but they'll definitely help in the future. Back then I think I wanted to try and keep the line work, but nowadays I'm working more toward realism without extra support from the lines. I'm going to have to scan some lines in for a paint over or do a doodle in photoshop to try all that.
Specular, now that I think about it, probably is what I need most (that and colour theory application). Now that I've done a few more paintings I think my biggest problem was how I did flats-using the pen tool. Now that I've gone past that stage (I think) your suggestions are the perfect goal-fundamental but still fairly complex to master. Thanks for the help and I definitely will use the suggestions in the future!

Is it that you're wanting to go for a more realistic approach, or you want to keep the nice black line work? If you want to keep the lines seperate, make sure to have them on a seperate layer. If you want a natural look, I always suggest, eye dropping the back ground to add some specular lighting on the body. Also another good effect, is use cool, desaturated colors for shadows. Sparingly use pure white and black. Use the colors you have and maybe a contrasting blue violet to the yellow mist. Hope that helps some
