Description This is a watercolor sketch from circa 2006. It was about 2/3 completed, so I decided to finish it up, scan it, and label it. This type of sketch does not take into consideration a realistic floor plan for a typical luxury home. Rather, it's a design exercise whereby I allow anything to happen, just let it flow and have a little fun, get creative, allow for eccentricities, draw complicated roof lines, invent new carved details and brick patterns, and push the limit. In truth, as is, with minor modification, it MIGHT work with a build-able, sell-able floor plan. It might also be a design fragment for a larger house.

Architecture from Northern France, especially Normandy and these areas, was the stylistic inspiration for this sketch. There are similarities and differences with the English Tudor across the channel. Some of the design features are labeled on the sketch. It also has some of my own typical slightly eccentric features.

Technical: Small watercolor sketch on toned tan paper, measures about 8 inches by 5 inches, some details enhanced with pencil and brown ink "Micron" pen.

This is incredible. It's a beautiful cottage/chateau. May you do a floor plan on this?

Probably not, just too many difficulties making a plan work with this concept.

Do you have a floor plan yet for this house?  I'd be interested in a blueprint.

Built4ever In reply to Ejmrhodes [2016-07-31 21:00:22 +0000 UTC]

HMMMM not really, it's a pretty "far out" concept. First floor would be small and tight, stair turret tight. Not sure if I would even attempt it. Are you seriously looking at this as a possible home plan?

Hello, My name is Elizabeth Rhodes and I am a luxury storybook-style builder in Maryland, USA. My company's name is Storybook Classic Homes.   I found this website looking for new storybook-style homes to build and found this home.  It is spectacular in appearance!  I'm looking for architects that designs these homes to build.  My website also sells blueprints outside of Maryland since I am am limited where I an build.  There is a large market for these homes since they are so different.  I've made my company a brand.  I have builder in Australia that has started building my homes after purchasing blueprints from my site.  How much do you charge for blueprints?  I would love to build one of your homes as one of my future projects and sell your blueprints online.  I do love the home of this original post.  It would sell well if the size was 4,000 to 5,000 sq. ft.   Maybe the floor plan would work then? Check out my website at www.StorybookClassicHomes.com  If you are interested to be listed as an architect we are working with, that would be great and we would feature your homes.  I love the homes you have designed so far and would like to see them built!  Look forward from hearing from you.  -Elizabeth Rhodes

Elizabeth: Hey thanks for nice words and checking out my drawings. Yes, I have seen your site already, very nice, with some spectacular builds already under your belt, very detailed and intricate. Not easy to get these built, I've had many projects get deep into planning and then go on the back shelves. Proper budgeting is a priority. I always check budget carefully at beginning now. I have plans to offer my vast collection of designs/drawings on the web, might be interested in a specialist site like yours, so let's chat. One issue I have is I draw/draft old-fashioned style, so no autocad (yet.) My plans are pretty darned detailed though. Many storybook homes like House 345 have virtually full drawing sets, just need accuracy check, document creation (24x36 layout for example,) and finishing. Some, like House 338, I get numerous requests but only have first and sec floors, and front elevation and perspective portrait. Need lots of work! But I'm buried in work right now, including flying to Seattle to do 3 weeks of architectural design for Dungeons and Dragons, in September, then return to a full load of projects, including a couple homes going under construction. Just hard to find time now. Let's switch to regular email so I can send sample plan sheets, and we can talk about what I need. JPEG/PNG files can be turned into PDF, but sometimes we have problems reproducing at accurate scale. We'll talk about that. My email: beauregard.francois@yahoo.com.

I would live here in a heartbeat.  The northern European architecture is beautiful and I love the landscaping.  It looks whimsical, fun and warm - I great place to live and raise a family.  Stunning work with watercolor, friend.

Built4Ever, any chance I can buy this watercolor off of you? My husband and I have been talking about building a house in similar style for a very long time, but we have never been able to quite visualize the concept or agree on all points of what look we would like. THIS just effing nailed it. I NEED that watercolor, cause you better believe it - we are gonna have someone build off of this! We are both floored!
I am a stained glass artist myself, as in, I make stained glass for a living. I will add some absolutely magical stained glass to it!

Great, glad you like it. Looked at your stained glass, beautiful work, very nice. Let me ask you some questions: where are you located in U.S.? I can design plans for this if you want. That's what I do every day! This is an extremely complex/challenging home construction project. I would recommend detailed plans. Let's switch over to email channels to discuss stuff privately. As far as the watercolor goes, it's quite small and hiding in a sketchbook binder. I usually don't sell originals but heck, maybe for the right price? However, I COULD create a high quality archival print for you in a size like 12x16", much bigger than original. Original is only 7 inches across. Feel free to email me at beauregard.francois@yahoo.com. Thanks!

Oh my gosh. My heart and soul are literally aching for such an exquisite and mesmerizing structure as this to call home. I can only hope and pray that one day in the future I can be so honored to have you design my dream house in the gorgeous North Carolina mountains. Though for now, I will simply lose myself in the dreamy creation that you so elegantly bestowed before me. Your work is quite brilliant and I am in awe, clearly.
