How the mighty had fallen! Eric was now a long ways from his early, youthful, bitter, depressed, angry self. He seldom produced Extirflame anymore to engulf enemies in. He had become more merciful, and had less of an urge to kill. When he did kill, he was more willing to use ordinary guns or knives, and not resort to using his cosmic Marlquaan "emotion batteries" as his first option.

He once traveled the world, punishing the most evil and reprobate of souls. Now, he was needed confined to the western territories, that as Toklisana rebuilt itself - and America at large - after a horrible civil war, he'd be able to keep it from further Icy Finger conquest.

The Tug devices put in place around Arkansas' border by the Chrome Kite now made it too dangerous for him to operate normally as Extirpon. He couldn't fluctuate his frequency like a few others could, making him vulnerable to suspended animation fields. This was not acceptable!

For a similar reason, neither of the Gray Champions could dethrone the Chrome Kite regime, and liberate Arkansas. They too had to prevent expansion from outside it - while being extra cautious of any new Tug tech!

However, Eric was grateful in spite of everything. God gave him his humanity back, after gaining the powers of Extirpon nearly drove him mad, and destroyed his soul. And he had his family back. Eric could heal inside. And the need to avoid excessive use of powers, and simply be a militia soldier and family man, was keeping him humble, and preventing him from once again becoming a slave to his anger!
