John Domeck as the Gray Champion, as he appears in "Swappernetters," according to Wonder. Discovering WWI veteran-turned-time-traveler Roy Bernald now has many of the same abilities, John is using his time in exile in the west not only to plot the Sodality of Gerosha and Order of the Oraphim's triumphant return to save Arkansas from the Chrome Kite, and to free his former sidekick Hea Pang; but also is using the time to train Roy to be his eventual replacement as the Gray Champion.

Even with the Marlquaan slowing his aging down, John is getting too old, war-weary, and depressed to want to be the Gray Champion anymore. There must be a new one for every fourth turning. So now that John's time is passing, he feels it imperative to pass his legacy on to the most promising heir of his legacy that he believes will ever be found.
